Whatever the review's tell you, if you're visiting Sydney for the first time, Harry's Pies are a must try. Had a beef pie with mash and gravy and nice dollop of mushy peas on the side. What a great way to end a walk in the RBG. I love it. Try it and make up your own mind. By the way, the Chillis are pretty much perfect too on a cold day.
Good pies, not quite the best but not bad. I love the chilli dog. After many visits, I have now discovered the chilli sauce is Masterfoods and available at your supermarket. The chilli dog is a real challenge to eat without getting the sauce all over your face, particularly if you ladle it on like I do. There is another Harry's in Hay St Haymarket, same menu.
I was taken here on a first date. I thought it was an odd choice of restaurant but the food was awesome and its always open so we've been back many times, and I'm still with my boyfriend after 3 years!!
These are Australian meat pies at its greatest. Good quality beef with a warm dollop of mashed peas. The atmosphere is nice on a warm sunny day as you get sparkling views of the water and there is sufficient shade around the place. Service is friendly and they are generous with their condiments. Queues can be a bit long but that's just a testament to their quality and value.
Everyone have heard of this place. It is a must try. We eventually did and was totally disappointed. I guess we had greater expectations. Did not enjoy the meal at all.
It got me over my pie-allergy (I've been allergic to pies since I was 6). On that note, good enough for me.
P.S. from reading the reviews here, I think the service + food are actually better late at night, drunk or not (because I wasn't). I asked for a container for gravy and peas since I was driving quite far and they put it in a coffee cup, no extra charge. At 2am, I think that should classify as five-star.
It had been a while since going to Harry's, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and service. It is great piece of Sydney history and it good place to take overseas tourist for their first pie. One of my mates says they make the best pastrie I say it make a good basic pie and mushy peas with HP sauce. (The mushie peas are no longer tinned. which was why I stopped going.)
