The Harbour View hotel is a disgrace.

Nice pub in good spot, but staff have no idea about customer service

We had a group of 100 for wedding after party. Staff did not carry out very basic instructions for the function and when approached about it were rude and not helpful in doing what they were meant to. Groomsmen was threatened to be punched by a person who was not a guest and entered the function room, bar staff did nothing to kick him out!

Very disappointing that when talking to wedding guests over the following days everyone said how great the wedding day was, but a lot went on to say how rude harobour view hotel bar staff were.

I'm not saying don't go to the pub, it's a nice building in a good spot. Just go there with very very low expectations and you might not be disappointed.

I have always celebrated New Years Eve at this pub and always had a great time especially in the downstairs bar. Always a great dance party disco. Though I'd like to mention last new years I think they forgot it was news years eve. It was Drap and boring with no effort or atmosphere. I won't be going back unless I'm desperate. One Star.

The only reason we ended up here at 8.30 pm on a cold and rainy Saturday night in May was that we couldn’t find a single other place to dine in at The Rocks.

But desperation leads people to do strange things, which is why we decided to stay and eat here even though we couldn’t even get a proper table and ended up seated in a kind of lounge next to the pokies, with a long thin coffee table for a dining bench and two foot stools and a sofa for seating. It angers me that these people were happy to take our $70 but couldn’t offer us a place to sit.

And it’s not that the food was good either. It ranged from awful to mediocre. We ordered four dishes: two T-bone steaks, a lamb souvlaki salad and a garden salad for our vegetarian friend. The T-bone steaks were undercooked, cold and smothered in gravy. A garden salad had an awful sickly sweet dressing. My lamb souvlaki salad was about the best of the bunch but hard to eat on a table with a width of about 25cm.

The whole dining experience with the noise, the drunks and the discomfit of eating on a something the size of a kid’s play-table was just abysmal and we couldn’t wait to get out. Only positive was the pleasant lady behind the bar who took our order patiently and politely, despite the din and clatter, and the quick delivery of food to our “table” (which spared us more agony).

Miraculously we found a park nearby in Lower Fort Street which required a few coins for the meters but generally if it wasn’t for the Sydney Writers Festival nearby we would never venture into this area to eat and certainly not try it with a car on a Saturday night!

My partner and I went to the harbour view last night. We were a bit lost when we walked in and as there was no where to sit we were about to leave but the two lovely security guards set us up a table outside without us even having to ask. I'm a pretty fussy eater but we ordered the chicken schnitzel with gravy, fries and salad, it was amazing, Huge portion sizes, I couldn't eat everything on my plate even though I really wanted to because it tasted so good.

The beer on tap was nice and cheap but buying bottles was expensive. The cocktails were really good and the barstaff on the top level were friendly. We had an awesome night.

Our group came to this pub after lunch on Saturday for a few afternoon drinks and it was lovely. We sat at the rooftop bar and some of us had cocktails and the rest beers and bubbly. The atmosphere was quite nice and being up so close to the bridge you can see the bridge climbers in their grey jumpsuits as they file their way past.

The staff were very nice and always smiling even though it was rather hectic up there. The slight dampener to the afternoon came courtesy of the two older gentlemen at the table next to ours who refused to let me use their ashtray when I asked them politely if they minded. The withering looks and the outright rude response was not called for, you didn't have to tell me to eff off like that mate: you could have been nice about your strange refusal to let me ash my ciggie in your ashtray, I can see how disturbing this request must have seemed to you at the time, the humanity! In any case one of the lovely bar staff brought one out for us, without us even asking him, kudos.

What a disappointment. Or, perhaps, more of a shock. The dining room upstairs is pretend elegant-shabby, but more shabby than elegant. The bathroom facilities are poor. The service is stretched and average. The wine list is priced absurdly. The food was the good bit. Dishes were tasty and serving sizes were good. But the bill was astounding. We had a group of six and I was wondering if we had ten! Too many other good places around to go back.
