True authentic Japanese food cooked to perfection. The sauces and dressings were beautiful and everything very fresh.

Dine there by accident, we liked it and thought it was authentic Japanese "tasted" , i.e. not koreanised Japanese food. Pity found out they will end the business in few weeks time. Will go back if it ever open up somewhere, sometimes.

First time and somewhat disappointed as the eggplant was oily whislt the wagyu beef was tough, however, the service was excellent but, unfortunately, from our point of view there are better Japanese restaurants and we would not return.

We have eaten here several times in the past two months and the food is truly excellent. The new owners have ensured that the quality of the ingredients is very high and every dish we have tried has been superb. I can highly recommend the chicken teriyaki which is delicious and very authentic. There are not many restaurants in Hornsby that are of this calibre, with fantastic authentic food, and attentive service, truly a hidden gem! August 18 2011

A very friendly family run restaurant, the Japanese owner-Chef used to work in an award winning restaurant in the city and brings his skill and experience to Hornsby. The regular menu is very good, it has the usual Japanese staples plus a few you don't get in most places. There is also specials menu featuring seasonal dishes which appeal to Australian tastes while staying true to Japanese tradition. All the food is excellent, authentic Japanese food, and very good value. If you are looking for very good Japanese food in Hornsby I highly recommend Hana-ya.

First time at Hana-ya. Pretty basic surroundings with drinks fridge in the dining area etc. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Food was excellent. We opted for a change from our usual sashimi and tempura and tried the pork and eggplant, fish cakes and nanban. All were really tasty, arrived in good time and were well presented. Overall, a very pleasant experience and we will certainly be back.

The food here is lovely;simple, fresh and tasty. I particularly enjoyed the seared assorted sushi and the Wagyu BBQ which were expertly prepared.
I think there should be Japanese music playing to add to the atmosphere as the restaurant is tucked away and could seem a little plain. The food more than makes up for this and it is excellent value.

The restaurant food is yummy. Every dish I order is delicious and fresh. I like to eat in different restaurants and this one is very special, so I'd like to write something. The presentation of the food is extremely engaging and makes me mouth watering. I heard from a neighbour that there is a master chef in the restaurant. I felt hungry every time I passed it. I will go and try more dishes to see whether every single dish is indeed that yummy. Highly recommended.

I was invited to join a private birthday party in Hana-Ya restaurant last weekend with a couple of friends living in Northern area. Since they had made a booking in advance, all the menu and plates are ready when we arrived. We ordered pork dumplings, Tofu and fried chicken as entree, and each of us had a vegetable salad, and Teriyaki Tuna and fried pork with ginger sauce as main (I can not remember the name), and several sushi rolls as well. Hanaya's sushi is excellent, the rice is smoother better than all the shops around my place. Salad dressing is appetizing, little dumpling are succulent with flavour. Teriyaki tuna and Shouga-yaki pork are strongly recommended, as they taste really nice and rarely offered in other Japanese restaurant.

We have recently moved into the area and we tried this restaurant last saturday. We asked the waitress who is the chef and was told that there was a korean and a thai. That is rather interesting for a Japanese Restaurant. We ordered karaage chicken as entree, tempura udon, sashimi set and little dumpling. They are delicious, sashimi is very fresh. My wife especially liked the udon soup, with the taste of the soup is what she wants. We are happy to discover this place and will come again.
