Great food, can't expect anything fancy or special though. Good value, small dining room and can get very loud and busy where you will have to wait for a free table. It's recommended if you have never been here.
I cannot get enough of this place. I have eaten there every week for the last 2 years and I love it more and more everytime. Without a doubt the best value, best quality Japanese food I have had.
Sashimi main is sensational, Pork Katsu, beef tepan are all excellent. There is really something for everyone here, not just sushi and sashimi, plenty of meat for the boys as well. Lovely staff, clean and cozy place. I can't recommend it enough.
Great food, service and value. A little bit too noisy and the waitress likes to stare at your boyfriend. Been there several times. No major WOW factor, just good fresh Japanese food.
I have been a Pyrmont resident since 1999 and have eaten at Hamachi-Ya (or Masuya's as it used to be known) probably 150 times. I have never been dissapointed. Sure the staff are sometimes a bit hard to understand, but their genuine friendliness transcends any language barrier.
I have probably had everything on the menu and have enjoyed them all. At one point I was eating there every night (vegetarian sushi rolls were a staple!) - it was fantastic!
I now bring my whole family at least once every couple of weeks and even my small children relish the sushi, sashimi, miso soup, tempura prawns and inari. We often eat in and just as often order over the phone and pick it up on the way home.
I think only once our order was not correct, but when we advised the staff they corrected the order without any fuss.
I have eaten sushi at at least 10 other sushi restaurants around Sydney but none have come close to the quality of Hamachi-Ya - the sashimi and sushi in particular are of the highest freshness and quality.
If you want to eat the best, most authentic Japanese food in Australia, head over to Harris St. Pyrmont!
I've eaten here twice for lunch. The first time I got the lunch special, which is great value. $12.95, with beer/wine/tea,miso soup, rice and usually about 3 dishes, one of them a salad and fruit. I was full. The second time my partner and I were starving. The lunch special had more smaller items and was not as filling as last time but was definitely more enjoyable. We got a soft drink, takoyaki, which were good, two plates of salmon and assorted sashimi, edamame beans and it all came to $40.
Great value and left feeling satisfied. The staff's english is limited but that is not a problem. I only have 45 minutes for lunch and it has always been hassle free for me. Would go again. I haven't been there for dinner though but a colleague of mine did and she said it was good. Probably not the best but if you want a cheap, quick and tasty meal, go here.
Really good, value-for-money Japanese restaurant - what it lacks in ambience it makes up for in fresh ingredients and friendly, efficient service. Not somewhere I'd go for a flash night out, but their lunch special - $12 bucks - is unbeatable.
