Overview of Haemil

The authentic Korean food and atmosphere offered at Haemil reflect owner's passion for health, friends and good food. Haemil means â?~clear sky after the rainâ?®, which we believe will perfectly describe your frame of mind after Haemilâ?®s dishes.

Joshua Kwak, owner of the Haemil Korean Restaurant in Circular Quay, is a mixed bag of unexpected surprises â?" a bulky weight-training gourmand who plays classical piano and loves a bit of fun.

This place delivers lunch and dinner to your office if you're close to the restaurant! Overtime dinner doesn't get any better than this!

Korean food doesn't get better than this. I have been to Korea many times and eaten in many Korean restaurants in Australia and this place is as good as it gets. The menu is not huge, but the choice of dishes is excellent and they are well prepared with quality ingredients. My favourite starter is the Pajeon (seafood pancake). Pajeon is one of my favourites, anyway, but here it is crispy all over, well filled and has a wonderful taste.

When it comes to the mains, I don't have just one favourite. The Sam Ge Tang that others have mentioned is a very special dish, soup with a whole chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng, garlic, jujube (like dates). Of the sizzling BBQ meat dishes I prefer the Bulgogi to the Galbi, but they are both great. The Altang (spicy fish roe stew) is both unusual and excellent. The ambience is quiet and pleasant. The service, especially from the piano-playing manager, is very friendly and helpful. It is a little bit tucked out of the way, but well worth looking for. Very highly recommended.

Nice restaurant to enjoy a private and cosy dinner with a date. Manager is very friendly and will play mini grand piano on request.

This is an authentic Korean restaurant - just by sampling some of their dishes you can actually taste the authenticity in the cooking. I had 'Sam Geh Tang' or Korean Chicken Ginseng soup - one of the best I ever had. Whole cooked chicken in a light broth, the meat and bones are so tender that it literally melts in your mouth. And the restaurant use real authentic stuffing - Korean ginseng, chestnuts, spring onions, dates and sticky rice and so on. Very fulfilling dish.

I also highly recommend the short rib or 'Kalby'. The meat is served on a sizzling plate, marinated and cooked in Korean bbq style. All I can say is its really really tasty. Eat this with Korean rice - its just pure bliss.

The ambience is cosy and there's a grand piano in the restaurant. The owner sometimes play his best pieces - mostly classical scores - to entertain the guest.

This is a great and unique restaurant you must really try.

I don't normally do this kind of thing - giving recommendation etc. but this restaurant is great! I've been working in the city for sometime but didn't know this one exist. It is not on the street level but there is outdoor seating - very nice and cosy, and indoor seating area.

The food was great, I had short rib - it is dying for, served on a hot sizzling plate and it was just right. I have tried other Korean BBQ before they are fun but most of the time, after meal smells don't go away - wash my cloths or dry cleaning required but this place no - it was on the sizzling plate so still cooking while I was eating. My friend had a cod stew, yes it was delicious! We finished our meal with green tea ice cream - very different from other Japanese ones, you must try it is rather refreshing.

One more thing the owner of this beautiful Korean restaurant, he is rather big - muscle but guess what he plays piano - excellent player, yes there is a Grand Piano in the restaurant, Asian restaurant with Grand Piano! Sorry it was rather too long but try and you enjoy as much as we did.
