The best coffee in Leichhardt. The staff are always friendly and the servings are always great. You cannot find a better place to have a weekend brunch or a midweek meeting in all of Leichhardt
Disappointing to return and see how far this place had dropped off since my November 2005 review. Looks like a change in ownership as I didn't recognise any of the staff. I can do much better scrambled eggs at home, and then they try and make up for quality by substituting huge quantities of eggs, and turkish toast with rock hard butter. I won't be back as Norton Street has too many beter options.
This is my first visit to Grind and there will certainly be many more. The homestyle food was exceptional just the way my nonna used to make it, bringing back memories of my years spent in Italy.
The ambience and service were exceptional and full credit must go to Roy and Sam for the quality of their restuarant. The prices were also very reasonable in comparison to other restaurants with similar style food in the area. It is also very kid friendly with a spacious upstairs seating area with fantastic views of Norton Street. Congratulations on a job well done and see you again soon!
I have never been to Norton Street and spent under $40 for 2 and yet been handed huge servings of very tasty and well presented food! The atmosphere was relaxed and service friendly...very attuned to the needs of the customers. The coffee has to be the most immaculate on Norton Street. I was hugely impressed.
I would have to agree that Grind has, over time, become something that's not very special. We went with a group of 7 people, 1 with a client we were entertaining, and the experience was below average. We all ordered at the same time, yet 2 orders arrived much later than the rest, one being a caesar salad. How can a salad come 10 minutes later than a cooked meal?
In addition, and this may sound strange, but the glasses they gave us to drink out of were not clean and absolutely stunk of damp cloth or old sponge. This isn't being picky, it was immediately obvious to our table that something wasn't right due to a strange smell. Having said all of this the food is quite nice and the servings are generous. I'd recommened any risotto and the BLT. It was just a shame that the service was disappointing and their cleaning wasn't up to scratch.
Strangely enough I feel like I have visited a different cafe to the other reviewers. The one I went to was a bit average... not great, not bad. Okay coffee, average food.
We ate breakfast, on two different occasions. I hated the hash browns, which were oily and reminded me of McDonalds. My bacon and eggs were okay - but they didn't feel like the produce had been especially selected for quality. Even the bread was sandwich loaf, as opposed to anything interesting like sourdough or turkish. My tomato was a floury Apollo as opposed to a tasty oven roasted Roma. Serves were more than I wanted to eat, but perhaps that was because it wasn't tantilising my tastebuds enough!
Ambience was made a little trying by the bevy of mothers and prams... not my kind of place. Coffee however was good, and not scorched, or bitter. However, I guess I expect the coffee to be good at a cafe, but I choose a cafe for the food... and in those terms, this one didn't have it for me at all.
Great place for a relaxed breakkie, brunch on the weekends (or during the week if you are lucky to work in the area). Serves are huge. Sometimes experiments don't go as well they could but it's good to try new things. Great coffee and great service. Always see regulars so that's a good sign.
Great little cafe. We sat on the roof/balcony in the morning sun which is great in Autumn! Service was great. My only disappointment was that the hash brown were very oily, other than that everything else was satisfactory!
Make sure you visit their upstairs, which has a front balcony, rear deck and some cosy tables inside. This is my favourite local cafe by far and - shock, horror - they know how to make good cafe (so rare in Sydney cafe's!).
