Tucked away in a CBD laneway, there is a definate quirky Melbourne vibe to this small bar and restaurant. Our group of four took a chance and decided to eat here as a double birthday celebration, and none of us were dissappointed. The staff were genuine, friendly and efficient without being overbearing so I can not fault them on service. The food was just as fantastic. We shared two entrees between the four of us, the standout being a jar of pork rillette (not for those on a diet!). We all had the berkshire pork with black pudding, which sat on a finely shredded red cabbage, parsley and macadamia salad, with lovely jus. Our waitress reccomended we order a side, so we chose to share some kipfler potatoes with chive and sour cream. And because we'd enjoyed everything else so much we couldn't resist sharing an oozing salted caramel chocolate fondant with mint icecream and another dessert which had delicious homemade honeycomb. All in all we were all thoroughly stuffed and satisfied! I would definately go back again, knowing that great care has been taken with the quality of the food here. The cocktail list was also quite unique and tempting, so yet another reason to return for more sampling!

The venue is charming and cosy and the service was fantastic. Lovely wine list. Beautiful eggplant and hommous dip entree to start and fish main.
The meal was very nice, however quite small for the price - mains averaged $30. Also, my friend was a little disappointed that her meal did not have many veges or salad on it - we should probably have been told to purchase a side dish as the description did mention some greens but there were very few.
It is a lovely place to eat and very atmospheric.

So glad to be the first reviewer, as have eaten here at least 10 times. Never once had a bad experience, the staff are as nice as anywhere I have been in australia. The menu is not long, but changes often, always with fresh ideas. My wife has ordered the pepper steak all 10 times, the once I have have it I can see why, a perfectly cooked steak with sublime sauce. I have enjoyed some great duck, pork, fish and lamb dishes as well. The wine list is full of surprises, and the staff know them well enough to point you to something you will like. The room is just big enough to ensure good service but maintain ambience. One tiny complaint, the vegetable of the day is 1 choice, so if you come on sprouts day or brocolli day and thats not your thing, there is only a salad alternative but, I love grasshopper eating house full stop.
