This restaurant is a family favourite! We live in the area and find it quite difficult to find good Chinese food (being a Chinese family) and Grape Garden always has great food and the owner always surprises us with some specialty dishes.
We have taken a large numbers of friends and family to try their food and our guests have been happy each time. The Peking duck is a favourite and we believe it is likely to be the most authentic and tasty in Sydney among the places we have tried.
Yes the place isn't fancy but the food is great, the service is great and definitely good value.

We had the Peking Duck and it tasted fantastic! It was simple and perfectly delicious. The hand-made noodles as a second course were wonderful end to the meal. Atmosphere was not so good but food were definitely worth it and a great value. The owner was very friendly too. We will go back there again!

I went here for dinner tonight, when I booked they assumed we wanted the peking duck, maybe this was an omen (we didn't). The service wasn't quick but we went in a rush, and they were very friendly and helpful with our order. We ordered the steamed pork dumplings, I am obsessed with dumplings and would say these were pretty average. The shallot pancake was excellent!
Mains were, fried lamb, not my thing, quite a bit of fat left on the meat but a really great cumin spice mix. Spicey tofu, great flavor but very oily! A chicken stir fry dish, once again, quite oily. Shredded pork, not what I was expecting, stir fried pork, quite oily. So, if you don't mind a bit of oil I'm sure you would like this place. The flavours were unfussy though and it had a nice humble feel about the place. Perhaps, have the peking duck!

The Peking Duck was very tasty! The rest was average I must say, however, the pan fried pork dumplings were beautiful. Yes the ambience and decor had a lot to aspire to, but I found the price reasonable. $30 a head for 2 ducks and 4 other courses for 8 people. The chef was our chef and waiter for the night, sure his English wasn't great, but he made up for with personality and cooking.

In a OZ sense, you would feel that this restaurant is not quite sophisticated or classy. But if you have good sense of taste, you should be able to understand that this restaurant has the genuine high quality authentic food. Rather than expecting good service and ambience (as this is just family operated), just enjoy the fantastic real Chinese food!

Being a two-some, it is difficult to appreciate the full range of delights this no-frills eatery proffers. Having been regulars at their lunchtime offshoot in the Lemongrove centre in Chatswood, we were keen to try their dinner option.
We always get personal recommendations, from their chicken dish laden with secret pungent spices (not offered on the menu), to which vegetable dish to go with their peking duck, we are never disappointed.
It has the feel of a 'private kitchen' in Hong Kong, no-frills, but delivers on the promise of true Northern cuisine. As for oiliness, our experiences in Northern China have convinced us that this is the cultural norm. The Peking Duck did not disappoint. Bringing a mandarin speaker opens up more gastronomic possibilities, however, so does patience with the language barrier.

The pork lightly fried dumplings are lovely. Whatever you do, do not order the spring rolls, there is nothing in them, just burnt spring roll wrapper! The sizzling beef was nice as was the pork with coriander. The lamb was very fatty. Overall the dumplings were the highlight but that's it. The wait staff did need to be able to communicate in the English language better.

Mr. Greg Graham was right on the spot again. The food is not good very oily and the attitude of the wait staff has a lot to improve. There are heaps of good Chinese restaurants in the North Shore and if not careful this place will be in trouble. They relocated from Marrickville years ago and it's a shame let their rude attitude to customers ruin it.

This should not be call a restaurant but some backyard operation run by rude management and staff. Feels like one of those overseas back alley food stands from this restaurant's country of origin. There is a "I don't care attitude, just eat and pay and we don't care if you don't come back or not" arrogance.
The food, if you can call it that, is, like the previous reviewer said, oily, disgusting. Give this place a wide berth. It's no fun to have to pay for this substandard food and getting a load of bad attitude thrown at you.

I'm not sure what the other diners who have complimented this place see in it but my wife and I were very unimpressed with the food. It's been a while since I dined there so my memory of exactly what we ate is hazy, but whatever it was it was very oily, unappetizing and very poor value for money. The ambience was almost defiantly bad and I'd love someone to let me in on what exactly the appeal of this place is.
