Really amazing food, filling enough to be worth the price, and service was quick and they have cool buttons for service!

Good drop-in sort of place. It's cheap and serves good ramen.

I go this place quite frequently. 2 japanese restaurants next to each other on york st... used to go to the one next door only (Condor) but for the last two years, have frequented Goshu Ramen Tei as they have a better menu!

Staff are really friendly. Food is great (I'm sure it's not 5 star, but is tasty and fresh). I like their bento boxes ($16-25), waygu set ($16), udon with chicken cutlet($12).

Gets a bit cold in winter as most of the seating is outside. They provide blankets and heaters tho which I think is a cute touch. I'll never get sick of this place.

A regular lunch favourite, this is a good Japanese option when you want something a little more than food court fare or take away, but don't want something overly pricey.

The chicken katsudon is very good and we enjoy very friendly service on a regular basis.

I'm amused by the reviews here comparing this place to Japan or complaining about the "restaurant".

It's a cheap, local noodle bar and a pretty good one too. The ramen is better than average in Sydney, the service is always very good and in comparison to what's available the service is great. If you want something a little different, try the tan-tan ramen. It's done with chilli mince and done particularly well. As for comparisons with Japan, forget it. This is Australia.

Food: Mediocre, soup tasted too much like instant noodle soup base, but it could be worse.

Ambience: Awful: looks like a barn house patched with tarpaulins from Sydney hailstorms, except its located underground.

Service: Good, service was slow at lunchtimes, but staff were cleanly presented and courteous

Value: A bit on the pricey side.

Not sure why the reviews are negative below, maybe it's because I am obsessed with the Nabeyaki Udon here. It's one of my favourites in town. The only downside is the egg is boiled, not poached. For value, this is excellent. Service never fails. This little restaurant reminds me of Japan.

MY friend likes coming here as it opens late and its cheaper than other places in the city. The food itself is what I expected, the katsu curry was good, the flavour of the teriyaki chicken was great but my friend said it was a little under cooked. Tofu is better than other places.

Ambience, its actually quite small, and has a outdoor area with heaters outside, nothing to look at really. Service, nil issues here, my friend was impressed with the service though, giving water without being asked. Value: for city prices its cheaper than a lot of places. I can see why my friend likes to come here and the friend that liked the service wants to come back again.

After living in Japan for 5 months I had high expectations that the service and meal would be similar to what is the normal "High" standards that you receive in Japan. Unfortunately, it was not the case. First of all the tables and chairs are old and not clean and your elbows have a tendancy to stick to the table mat if left for an extended period of time. Both of our meals were served with cold and dry rice which tasted like rubber, we had one serving replaced by the waitress with what was obviously the same rice again from the same rice pot.

The lettuce stork we received was a particularly unpleasant addition to the meal, as was the orange fruit slice which had more orange rhine than orange. The 2 waitresses were nice and pleasant, however, when we mentioned how disappointed with the meal she said politely "sorry", but was still very happy to charge us the full price.

One waitress was providing light comic relief to everyone sitting outside by running and serving at the speed of light, at one moment we all thought that her plate of sashimi would end up in York St! We expected much more and hope that most australian people who have never been to Japan do not think that this is the standard of Japanese food which exists in Japan.

It was my first time to this restaurant. I ordered the gyoza and a miso ramen, while the gyoza taste was alrite, but had a very soggy texture, the gyozas were stuck to each other, and rip open as you try to separate them! Then the ramen arrives, i assure you it is the worst miso ramen I've ever tried, it's does not taste like miso, and weird enough that I probably only had 1/4 of the bowl and I couldn't take it no more. For that price you can go to elsewhere where they offer way better ramen and gyoza. This restaurant is not worth going at all, will not return, left me grumpy the whole night.
