This place has two enormous menus. Make sure you order of the more authentic Vietnamese-looking menu. We found the pricing and food offered on this menu much more palatable. We have had great noodle soups, fresh spring rolls, and pancakes here. Chatswood doesn't have many decent eateries, but Golden Bo is definitely worth a try. Staff are seriously non-hospitality focused, but service was at a reasonable pace.
Love all the food! The staff are somewhat inattentive, but once you get their attention they're pretty quick, and the value for the food is pretty good, great for a quick dinner not far from home!
My last experience at Golden Bo goes back a couple of years ago. I used to be a regular when I lived on the North Shore, but stopped visiting after a particular incident with one of their waitresses dropping a bunch of toothpicks on the ground and replenishing their toothpick containers with said toothpicks.
Their beef noodle soup (PHO) is really nice, but the quality is inconsistent. Sometimes, their broth can taste very bland, as if they simply added boiling water to their original stocks. The size of their servings are also a joke. You'll need at least two bowls of beef noodle soup to feel full, but by then, you'll be almost $20 out of pocket.
Some great Vietnamese favourites - pancake, prawn rolly pollys, hot pot etc etc. Don't expect great service - they try hard, but there is a lack of training of the staff. But then this is made up for by the food.
Hint Hint: Do not order your mains at the same time as ordering your entree - they'll all come together.
One of the best values and rare find for North Shore (foodies dessert area)! Recently renovated, it's clean, and the food appears better refined than pre-renovations. Haven't tried most of the dishes, but of the ones I have, the pho and vermicelli salad with lemongrass combo meats were tops (again for Chatswood, let's not compare with bankstown or cabra). A great spot to come back for a cheap, but delicious, feed. Am always in the area, so will definitely be a regular!
