Our experience was elevated by a brilliant new member of staff. He's a very tall, very handsome and charming brit who's taken on assistant manager position. Couldn't do enough for us, other staff seem to follow his lead. Place looked like it needs a fresh lick of paint but a lot brighter than last visit (prehaps, the whips been cracked on cleanliness?!). Awesome view, great atmosphere.
Had a great day in this top venue. It was busy but our meal arrived in 15 minutes and the burger was hot fresh and fantastic. Everything was nice and clean, I think they may have read some reviews and cleaned up their act.
The Glenmore was always the proletariate pub in the otherwise gentrified Rocks. However, food prices have caught up with the rest of the area. Sadly, though, the quality of food remains mired in the past. The dull menu could be any pub kitchen in the country, and the end result is below-average food served at below-average temperatures. Come for a drink and take in the view from the rooftop, then eat elsewhere.
Tip - Just get a beer and go to the roof. Many a time, I've had friends from outside Sydney go over the roof top view, only to be deflated by the food. Good spot to stop for a beer on a pub crawl then move on. If you can't get to the roof, not much else on offer
Great views if you take the stairs to the rooftop area. Food used to be quite decent, however visited again recently, and the food quality has declined. Steak full of gristle, and chips oily, soggy and cold. Service well intentioned. Go for the views and well priced drinks.
Well, I wouldn't make a point of eating here but the beer is good! They have TAB and Tv's with sport on, music and like everyone says, lovely views of the Opera House. Main reason I come here when I am in Sydney is to sleep because of the location and value for money. Good bars and restaurants very close by so if you don't want pub food don't order here!
Went for lunch today (31/12/05) and it was terrible. Sat down at a table where a disgusting dirty ashtray remained for ages - I had to pick it up and move it. The table wasn't wiped down and when the food arrived, my cutlery was plonked down onto the unwiped, wet and dirty table. The steak burger - it arrived and the steak was as dry as Warragamba. Managed to take two bites out of it before deciding it was best left.
A staff member came to collect empty glasses and we told him he could take the plate of uneaten food, he wasn't really interested in why the plate was still full. We explained that the food was bad - the steak was extremely dry and he just shrugged his shoulders. A complete waste of $13 and a very unpleasant experience.
Great view from the roof, if you dont get sun stroke. Better seating in the local park. Take a bite of the garlic bread and watch the grease spill out onto your trouser leg. Greek Salad was pretty poor dressed with Balsalmic vinegar. Thought that was an Italian thing. Complained about the main course that had not arrived after an hour and a half and was advised that it had allready been served. When I advised that staff that it had not arrived I was ignored and treated like a liar. Promptly left. This place was a dump forty years ago, a coat of paint and a now trendy location has done nothing for it. Spend your dollars elsewhere.
