Overview
Set in newly refurbished Glenella guesthouse. It has over 100 years of history in the town of Blackheath. The building is stunning, with pressed ceilings, The building is stunning, with pressed ceilings and and an open wood fireplace (great to sip coffee or a glass of wine).
The restaurant itself comfortably fits 60 people which overlooks a large garden to the back.
The food is deliciously presented and exceedingly tasty, with dished ranging from braised wagyu beef steak to duck confit. The price is very economical at $45 for two courses and $60 for three. Well worth a visit.

I'm sorry to say anything negative about Glenella because the people here are just so nice and helpful. We have had several lunches and two dinners. The main course and entree food at dinner has been generally very good. The house-made bread at any time of the day is wonderful. The desserts let them down, I have yet to experience a really good dessert here, despite the fact that they seem to be trying in this area and have presented some rather bizarre mixes of things.
Lunch used to be good in terms of quality of food and value but at our last lunch visit the food was poorly conceived, poorly cooked and overpriced. It left us with a bad taste of this place. We probably will go back and try again, but it will take us a while.
Can't fault this place. While staying in Wentworth Falls for the weekend, we made the short drive to Blackheath to experience Glenella and what an experience!! Despite there being a party of about 25 dining at the same time, we weren't neglected.
Staff were lovely!! $60 for a wonderful 3 course meal. Started with white pudding and truffles, which was divine. Followed by the ''Special'' main which was pork belly and it was honestly the best pork dish I've had!! Every mouthful was better than the first. It melted in your mouth. Finished with the Apple crumble and toffee gelato, which I had trouble finishing since I was so full, but was very enjoyable as well.
Overall, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Can't fault a single thing!! Will be back in the near future!
We stayed at Glenella on a weekend package that included a three course meal in the restaurant. It was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I can remember. Roaring log fire and big chesterfield sofas with pre dinner drinks put us all in the right mood.
The restaurant itself is a great venue, simple and modern but very cosy with bags of character including an 8m long chesterfield sofa. It was one of those meals you're excited about before you start eating and when you do it lives up to all expectations. The service was extremely professional but still informal and friendly.
The menu was perfect, well balanced and constructed, and the food was the same -four of us chose mostly different dishes and were all equally impressed with the very very high standard of quality. In my opinion, all good meals should be finished in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere on big sofas in front of a log fire - well, it is now my opinion and we'd have stayed up much longer if we hadn't had to get up early the next morning!
We stumbled across Glenella by chance, looking for somewhere nice but reasonably priced and got five star everything - go before they get really popular and have to put their prices up.
Visited here on a Wednesday evening and was pleasantly surprised by the size, ambience, table settings and general setup of this new restaurant in Blackheath.
Wine selection is dominated by a wine sponsor of good repute. Some good wines here we were pleasantly surprised that an average priced Pinot was of a high quality.
Not a huge menu which is what I like. I ordered the wagyu beef which I believe was braised with two side dishes, delicious. Very happy with the food and presentation was above average. Had the meringue for dessert which was also very good.
Pricing was what you would expect of an above average restaurant, a delightful addition to the Blackheath dining scene. Is also open for lunch which I will have to try one day during the summer.
A surprising find. We stayed at an ex-golf course guest house down the road on last (freezing) weekend in July. We found the Glenella through comparing menus amongst local restaurants and for a small locale there is no shortage of quality eating houses. The building itself has lost none of its character & is beautiful inside with a warm open fire and comfortable chesterfield lounges (I think the longest chesterfield in Australia has taken up residence at the Glenella).
The restaurant was busy but staff handled things with ease. The meal was superb and the set menu was well structured and well priced. We ordered the prawn special, followed by the duck and kingfish, all preceeded by oven-baked hot bread.
Taste and presentation were spot on. The chef and new owners have done a wonderful job in such a short time and it's well worth a trip out from Sydney to try this one.
We ate here when staying nearby. One of us had previously stayed/eaten here about 20 years earlier. The rooms and restaurant are being refurbished by a charming Welsh-origin couple. The restaurant had been open for only 3 weeks when we dined but the service was excellent yet unobtrusive.
Lovely entry room with a cosy fire very welcoming on the chilly night we visited.
Menu was small but provided for all tastes, and our choices were very good. Very good wine list ranging up to the expensive. We would recommend Glenella.
Arrived on Saturday evening to a log fire where we enjoyed our aperos! The food was delicious, particularly enjoyed the tuna and duck confit. The meringue was delicious. Portions generous sizes and price reasonable for the location. Service very friendly and attentive. We will be back and also stay at the renovated rooms in the guesthouse!
A warm and welcoming experience: staff were enthusiastic, polite and prompt; the menu selection was just right; portions were very generous; and I could taste the care and skill of the kitchen staff in each course. The cosy fireplace in the main hall under the decorative pressed metal ceiling is a natural gathering and relaxing point; there's a number of elegant and comfy sofas within which to lounge and enjoy pre-dinner drinks and conversation and the dining room is bright, fresh and contemporary, with a sunny north-facing outdoor verandah overlooking the garden. Highly recommended.
Come on a very cold Friday night. Beautiful open fire and lounges, dining room suited the building nicely. It was like stepping back into an other time.
The food was very good! we were very surprised! Stand outs were the Tuna, white pudding, wagyu beef, tortellini and chocolate tart. Bread was lifted nicely with the truffle butter.
Service was very friendly, sometimes slow and lacked knowledge of the food, but made us feel right at home. Good value for money! We'll be back when next in the mountains!
