This place is just wonderful. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable of the entire menu, the menu caters for just about everyone and the food itself is just divine. It's simple, home-cooked fare but with subtle twists and tweaks to make it special.
The restaurant has a lovely warm and welcoming feel to it - perfect on a chilly winter's night. The only complaint was having to pay five dollars for bread but that's not all that uncommon. I will definitely be back to try more on the menu and enormous wine list.
It took three attempts to get here but it was worth it. First time, closed between Christmas and New Year. Second time, only table at 9 pm. Third time, learnt that two sittings - 6-6.30 or 8.30 - 9 (or thereabouts) like 1970s cruise ship experience. Also problem that supposed to return call to confirm, but no answer. Would we have a table? Not sure what the advantage is when mob of hungry people arrive and previous sitting not quite finished. But great fast service, good buzz, food generally above average, wine list reasonable. Will return, but too many hurdles to make it soon. Dining out shouldn't be this hard!
Very nice food, wine list huge, service great, quick meal delivery. Felt a little rushed but being second sitting could understand that. Hope to go again.
I had a very nice meal here about 2 months ago, it was just a quick catch up with a friend but I do remember it well. Yummy dessert oh and nice coffee!
I don’t mind the double sitting rule, it make financial sense for such a small diner which is only open four nights a week. It is a little noisy, but that just adds to the charm. The food is hearty, simple and delicious, the wine list is brilliant and the service is warm and affectionate. Don’t take attitude to this place as Sydney diners tend to; just go there to enjoy a rare, clever little eatery.
The first time that we went to Glebe Pt Diner the food was good, the ambience OK, but the service was rushed. We dined early and we were sure that the restaurant wanted us out so that they could fit in another sitting.
We didn't actually get to eat the second time. We booked on a Wednesday for lunch on a Friday. When we arrived we were shown to the "kitchen table" which is a corner table facing a wall on one side and the kitchen on the other. The staff are walking past the table from the kitchen to the restaurant constantly.
Our other choice was to sit at the bar .. a cold comfort option with the door constantly opening and closing with the arrival and departure of other guests. As we were about the settle for the latter a delivery man arrived with a trolley of vegetables and the arctic gusts while he made his entrance decided us, and we ate elsewhere. Definitely not recommended!
Had a fantastic lunch here on Saturday. The food was absolutely superb, and the service the best I have experienced in a really long time. We haven't stopped raving about it to all our friends!!
It is a truly great bistro that delivers on the promise, down to earth yet delicious food as expected by the chef, friendly service and it is a diner, so I personally expect it to be more rushing than your average local restaurant.
Not bad..... but definitely not a relaxed venue, everyone seemed in a rush the entire meal! We were the second sitting which is why they were rushed I think!!! The staff were very nice but offered us the wrong meals twice! The food was good but not great! My wife's meal wasn't cooked as asked! We probably wouldn't return.
I really wish there were more local restaurants like this, tasty, interesting food that isn't fussy or fussed over, served by people who care about what they are doing, with an accessible wine list and BYO, in groovy but relaxed surroundings! I've been here a few times now, weekend and mid-week and I've enjoyed it each time. I think the idea of serving wine by the carafe is a great one as well.
Often a whole bottle is too much, and a glass not enough, and 500 ml carafes really fill that gap. And it's much cheaper than ordering by the glass. Normally I don't order chicken when eating out (as it is usually a very boring choice) but the organic chicken with bread sauce here is really something special. On my last visit, dessert was the standout: poached pear with pecan praline. Delicious!
