The pork ribs on a wed night has to be seen to be believed! My friends had the parma and a burger, both were fantastic. I will be there next wed night for sure.

It is obvious that no one has reviewed this establishment for a long while. I work down the road from the Gladstone and whilst it used to be Ok, it is now a complete dive, especially in terms of the food.

My workmates used to attend here periodically, but no more. New management came in and I have never seen anything as inept, or, perhaps, providing food is not high on their agenda. To begin with many of the listed menu items are simply not available. Getting something as simple as a hamburger with pineapple proved to be a major stressor for the kitchen.

Don't even think about asking for beetroot. It is not stocked. Is this a pub?! We ordered 7 basic pub meals in an otherwise empty pub, and it took over an hour to get it out. The kitchen, the last time we went, did not even have oil and the cook popped out somewhere to get a can. Whatever you do, do not eat here. It is the biggest dump I have ever had the displeasure of eating in. I would not trust the beer lines for cleanliness either.

Its a great little pub with a warmth to it, something 80s lost in the world of poker machines. The band of reggae Caribbean feel gives it the exotic flavour it needs. Its a great place to have a drink, savor great food and friendly atmosphere. Great management too and quite willing to adapt to the environment of clientele, some boisterous but harmless. Great all round. Going again tonight.

This is obviously not the same pub as per the review last year. It’s a great local and still has $13 jugs of Squire’s Golden, cheap cocktails, but the bistro is just standard ultra-cheap pub fare, $6-10 meals. Beer garden and typical dingy local feel if that’s what you’re after when all the uber-chic reno’s of most other pubs start to get annoying. Great, but nothing like I read about in the last review!

Had an excellent midweek feed with a friend in this very unassuming little local opposite a petrol station in Chippendale. My friend had the vegetarian pizza - nice thin crust, generous toppings and rich tomato base - and I chose the steak - perfectly cooked with hand cut chips, salad and pepper sauce. The value for money here is excellent, especially considering the quality ingredients and loving preparation. The courtyard setting is relaxed and intimate. All in all, very impressive; next time I'll try one of their more adventurous dishes instead of opting for the traditional pub fare.

I've pretty much made the 'Gladdy my after-work local lately. After a stint as a seedy strip club last year & a grungy backpacker's before that, the new managemet have hit the perfect balance. The place is stylish & hip without going overboard, has cheerful & helpfull staff & has a pleasant mix of seasoned old-school locals, students & suits all happily drinking away side-by-side. Cheap jugs & cocktails during their happy hours (5PM 'till whenever, it seems) certainly keeps myself & the boys happy! The bistro food has to be seen to be believed though. Was there for their Fri nite Gourmet BBQ yesterday; huge, grilled Ocean Trout fillet with all the breads, dips & extras for $15, washed down with $7 Jugs of Squire's Golden!! Say no more...

The new bistro at the Gladstone is fantastic! I have been several times and every time the food is great. The covered outdoor area at the back is a pleasant surprise and a great place to eat. The food goes far beyond the usual pub fare of chicken schnitzels and steaks. The menu and food presentation are what you would expect from a fancy restaurant in the city, paying way more than the $10-15 here. I went twice for the Sunday roast which was $12 for a beautiful plate full of roast pork with crackling and all the trimmings! I don't know if the Sunday roast is still running but it is well worth a try!

The Gladstone has, according to the numerous fliers deposited into my letterbox, been renovated and is under new ownership. Not a bad thing as my last visit there didn't really inspire me to return.

It would appear the new owners haven't fallen for the stereotype of chrome, floorboards and plasma which is quite refreshing for a Sydney pub refurbishment. Ruby glass chandeliers, comfortable leather couches and a wide range of beers are available, alongside a few cheap cocktails which seem to be on permanent promotion price judging by the animated after-office crowd that were gravitating to the bar.

The real delight can be found in the bistro, which seems to be styling itself on a hatted restaurant rather than the usual pub fare. Pressed shoulder of lamb with spiced lentils and caramelised vegetables? Medallions of pork with pumpkin & potato hashcakes?? Both delicious and presented beautifully, served to our table by the chef that cooked them. The refreshing absence of the food buzzer system most bistro's use was duly noted.

This place is the bomb; I only hope it stays that way.
