Overview

A small garden restaurant - soft music, sunny and airy throughout, located close to the city. Established over 20 years ago, on the corner of Crown and Stanley streets, it is now situated on the corner of Stanley and Riley.

Giardinetto offers a great ROMANTIC and relaxing atmosphere, beautiful design and a wide variety of old Italian cuisine. The dining experience is enhanced by candlelight, caring service and amazing food. You are guaranteed to spend an unforgettable evening at Giardinetto.

Dined on Wednesday night, although already had reservations due to the already mentioned suspiciously fake reviews. Both had the chicken and mushroom crepe to start. Mediocre. Then order the pan fried lamb cutlets. The cutlets were stone cold. When I complained I was told that it was an entree salad and that’s how it is meant to be.

I replied saying it was a main course and they whisked away my plate, nuked it, and then returned. By which point the lamb was neither medium nor appetizing. The ambience was nice and maybe with a different choice of main it may have been better. Saying that, I wouldn't return.

We dined here on Saturday night and had a good time. The food at this restaurant is interesting and great value. I always try to bring a big appetite along with me so that I can have appetizers and a main course. I highly recommend the bruschetta for an appetizer. The pumpkin ravioli is also delicious. For main course I recommend to try Duck a la Orange.

What amazes me about this place is that the staff works like a well oiled machine, the food comes out fast and perfect, and the personal attention I get leaves me feeling a little famous. The wine list is well composed and offers tasteful compliments to the food.

Previous review on 10/12/07: I came here with some friends and I think we were all a bit disappointed by the end of the night. I wish I had read Eatability first before visiting here; it was a pretty pricey place for mediocre food. We paid $30 per head with an Entertainment Book (25% off) discount, which meant the original price per head was $40. My mains of duck risotto ($26) was overwhelming salty and I stopped eating it about 1/3 of the way in.

The duck didn't have much flavour; at least there were specks of sundried tomatoes here and there to liven it up. At least the waitress allowed me to take the rest home in a takeaway container (and was very nice about it too)! It was an interesting place to dine, do not come here if you can't stand angels. Lighting was nice at the beginning of the evening (while it was still bright outside) but it got pretty dim by the end of the night, so avoid if you get eyestrain easily.

Update: I note, from the Eatability website, that Giardinetto has changed hands. As I have an Entertainment Book, I thought it might be worthwhile visiting again. But from the 1st review on Giardinetto that I read (dated 19 June 2008), it seems like they had much the same experience as I did! In that light I thought it was worthwhile bringing up my old review - I will update this as soon as I revisit Giardinetto.

It seems to me that this restaurant has claimed to have changed hands solely for the purpose of wiping out the many negative reviews about Giardinetto. Previously (prior to May 2008), there were many, many negative reviews about Giardinetto.

Instead I now see many, many glowing reviews that sound suspiciously fake. I am willing to give this restaurant a second chance from my original appalling visit; however such underhanded tactics displease me greatly. I would avoid this place.

If you want amazing, authentic Italian cuisine, Giardinetto is the place! I can say is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Be sure to order the Risotto Pescatore, is so good. If you are on a budget catch their price fix from 6:00 -7:00pm. Giardinetto is on the top of my list.

First mistake: looking for a place to eat on a sunday night in Sydney, everything is closed. Second mistake: walking into Giardinetto. We were lulled into a false sense of security with a decent bruschetta for entree. Unfortunately, our mains consisted of a cold over cooked steak and a srange tasting duck risotto. And after a ten dollar glass of pinot and a twenty minutes wait for the bill we won't be going back. I must agree with the previous post regarding the fakeness of some of the other reviews of this restaurant.

A little slice of Italy in the heart of the city! This is a great little place. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The wait staff was attentive and fast. The food was incredible. The Filleto Gamberoni was delicious. If you like risotto you must have it here, it was incredible.

My dining partner had a steak that melted in your mouth! From the moment we walked in to the time we left full and content it was a great dining experience. We dined on a Friday night and hardly waited to get seated. Nice little bar with good wine! Check it out, its worth it.

This place was excellent! My whole family enjoyed it. Not only the service was great, the food exceeded my expectations which were high. It was a wonderful experience and I hope all who dined here have the same feelings.

My recommendations…try the Risotto Pescatore and Smoked Salmon Linquine. For dessert.. home made tiramisu.
P.S The Italian wine was outstanding! I highly recommend this place.

We have been to Giardinetto many times and we enjoyed it every time. The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing. Service was great and very friendly. The food was very tasty, generous and well - sized.

My favourite dish would have to be the Garlic prawns with rice. The steaks are pretty yummy too, especially the Steak Giardinetto. By the way, they do a great home made Tiramisu!! Keep up the good work Giardinetto. We will be there soon for my partner's birthday!!!
