I dined here with my family for Father's Day last week and I had a great time. It is the best buffet I have ever been to and is great value for money. I am a big fan of buffets. There is a huge variety of food from Seafood, Asian, Italian, Indian and plenty of others. The pasta bake was delightful, accompanied by the fish fillets, hot pizza slices and sausages, and that was just my first plate. The prawns are amazing, the fresh roast was so juicy.
The difference between this buffet and most other buffets I have been to is that there were chefs behind every buffet counter making sure all the food was still hot and if any food had been there too long, it was removed. Food is constantly being cooked and different food were put out all the time.
The desserts were my personal favourite and are a blast with the kids. There are many different types of cakes on offer and little plastic cups filled with different combinations of mousse, ice-cream, cream, custard and jelly. Take your family to this place, it's fantastic!!
Went here last night for my birthday dinner before Phantom, and was prepared to be disappointed but was pleasantly surprised. The prawns are good, just as everyone has said but I found the other dishes were tasty and not at all bad. My only criticism is that the range was quite limited even though they boast of “more than 130 hot and cold dishes”. Food temperature also needs improvement as most of the dishes were only warm.
I’m a buffet lover and this was definitely one of the better ones I’ve been to in a while. Am aiming to come back soon with some friends to see if they share the same opinion. Boyfriend was pleased and he’s normally not a buffet fan.
Knowing my love for buffet dining, my friends took me and my fiance here for dinner on a Wednesday night. We queued for almost half an hour just to get in. The place was so crowded and the type of crowd that the buffet draws doesn't particularly contribute positively to the atmosphere. The sole attraction for this buffet is the prawns. If you don't like prawns like me, then you're screwed. The rest of the food is bland and boring.
I asked one of the wait staff for a high chair for our friends baby, only to end up waiting for half an hour (for nothing!). We had to ask countless times and many different members of staff before one of them actually went and got us a high chair. Don't go here if you're expecting fine dining and decent buffet food with good service. At best, you'll get a clean table and 10kgs of prawns.
Dined here with family for both dinner and breakfast (upon recommendations from friends). Overall, average to below average when comparing it to other buffet restaurants.
In terms of dinner, Asian selections were mediocre at best, fried foods were average, and salads were nice, meats and roast veggies average. Big surprise was the Indian (a potato dish I’d not heard of) which was delicious, highly recommended.
Pizza was awful and obviously most people there had been previously warned as it looked as though no one had touched it for several hours. The pasta was slightly above average but not worth filling up on. Good selection of breads and definite value for money if you are inclined to consume copious platefuls of prawns.
Desserts were ok, tiramisu was mild but nevertheless nice, black forest cake good as was the soft serve ice cream. Avoid the artificial tasting mousses and jellies.
Breakfast was average. Not a large selection of cereals, bread assortment was disappointing and no Vegemite for toast!!?? Freshly squeezed juices were great. Bacon, eggs, hash browns and omelette get the thumbs up. Avoid the pastries as they are certainly not tasty enough to warrant an hour on the treadmill to work them off! Coffee was surprisingly decent.
The staff were generally friendly and attentive (considering it was busy) and it was generally clean. In terms of value for money, dinner is good value if you plan to eat lots of prawns, otherwise, it is overpriced due to the quality of the food.
The Garden Buffet, I don't quite understand the name as I saw NO GARDEN! And if there was one, I probably wouldn't have been able to see it because of all the people! Way too over crowded. The ambience was disappointing. Felt like trailer trash meets Myer food court meets Birdseye packaged food.
Certainly won't ever come back ever again. $35.90 could have been spent elsewhere where I could have gotten friendly service to clear plates and with above average quality food.
Not to mention the line just to get in! It's how they suck you into gambling because the Buffet is right next to one of the entrances to the Casino!
My advice: don't bother! Because once you actually get in, you end up carrying your "clean" plate trying to figure out what to eat. Which would eventually end up being prawns. That are small. And with that mysterious orange creamy sauce.
After being to several buffets around Sydney and Melbourne, I would have to say The Garden Buffet is by far miles ahead of the rest. They have just introduced their breakfast buffet, which looks very tempting and we shall soon see what it's like!
With the Garden Buffet it all falls down to whether you like seafood (in particularly prawns). If you're not into seafoood, don't bother because you'll just be wasting your money on salads, pizzas and a few cuts of various meat.
The asian dishes were just bland like they've been sitting there all day, this happened on all occasions that I've visited. The desserts (custards, jelly and mousse) are presented in little plastic cups which look very nice and are always a treat for the kids. Then there's the usual slices of cake.
If you think the food here is bad, try elsewhere. You'll just be nibbling on a few meat pieces along with lettuce for the whole time. Oh and they have a "seafood" option where you pay $15 ontop (so all up $35) of the usual buffet price to get a plate of seafood (basically 1 serving of various seafood and 8 or so prawns). It's not 'all you can drink' either.
So, all-in-all it may be costly, but it's money well worth spent if you're really hungry and love prawns.
I actually think this is better-than-average buffet food. Having gone to vegas a few times, the home of the casino buffet I think maybe I realise how bad buffet's really can be.
It is "really" good value if you are hungry enough..unlimited everything. Prawns are really nice (of course only tiny little farm prawns) but with a good flavour, meat station is great with fresh carved roasts and fantastic lamb chops and veges. I normally give the Asian/Mexican/Indian and Italian stations a miss..nothing special there.
The salads section is nice and simple..good Greek salad. Theres unlimited soft drinks (but please give us mineral water! plain water or soft drink and nothing in between) and dessert is so -so. There's a few jelly and mousse type things and a bread butter pudding...there's now a soft serve machine though which seems to be a hit with the kids.
If you are a star city member and get the reduced price then it really is great value.....and I can never fit much else for the rest of the day!
The usual cheap buffet food. The hot food tasted like it had been sitting under the lights all day. I didn't like any of the 'real' food except the prawns. I had a bite of everything and then ate a heap of prawns. Seemed like everyone else had the same idea.
What I liked was the cheese and crackers, the salad and the desserts, except for the trifle. It was just cream, cream and more cream. Don't have the orange juice. It was 10% orange juice, 90% water. Stick to the fizzy drinks. The waiters cleared our plates quickly and was accommodating when we asked to be moved as our table was rocky.
The place reminds me of an American high school cafeteria. If you are very, very hungry this is the place to go. You won't mind the mediocre food when you're extremely hungry!
I don't know why I bother going, the food always looks awful even before rush hour. They seem to get worse each time we visit, the last time we ate here we were yelled at across the room by our waiter and called over to sit down, our dirty plates were left on our table despite waiters walking past every other minute.
They cram too many tables in and you are elbow to elbow, the price is too much for the tasteless food, if you don’t like seafood there is no point... you pay $30+ for some basic pizza and a bit of dry roast.
Didn't find much variety but loved their oysters! It's a pretty good buffet restaurants but when compared to other buffets, doesn't have as much. I enjoyed the seafood but most of the Fried Asian dishes weren't all that good.
