Galileo is Sydney's leading five-star hotel restaurant with a proud record of excellence since its opening. It has been consistently recognised for its fine food and excellent wine list.
Jonathan Bruell has recently taken up the position of Kitchen and Beverage Director for Galileo. Bruell's style of cuisine is a wonderful combination of Australian produce and innovative modern cuisine, served in an atmosphere reminiscent of a grand Parisian salon.

My husband and I had a fabulous breakfast here. It was miserably cold and wet outside, but the breakfast menu cheered us up. The scrambled eggs were perfect, as were the berry pancakes. In fact, we ate so much we weren't hungry until late afternoon. We will definitely return again one of these days for dinner.

Warm and luxurious, Galileo is an experience from the start, with very professional but waitstaff who are friendly without being too familiar, wonderfully crafted food and decor that is plush and reminiscent of an old club. For those who don't like degustation, and prefer a la carte, the menu choices may be a little restricted, but the presentation is exceptional, very creative and obviously the product of a chef that thinks hard about what flavours to combine. Expensive, but the perfect restaurant for a special occasion.

Beautiful restaurant with beautiful foods. We always try the degustation menu everytime we come here. However if you are on special diet or don't eat certain type of ingredient then I won't recommend trying the degustation, instead you should pick the ala carte menu. Love the egg cocotte the most (try only if you love foie grass) and Tartare of NZ Venison. Service is profesional, polite and friendly.

I tried the 8 course degustation. Food was awful, totally not worth it. Service was tops, the only thing I liked was the pre - dessert.

I won't say the food was perfect, but it's value for money!! I was trying the 8 courses degustation, the starters and dessert was great, but the main was fairly normal. However, the waiter were very professional and the matching wine was excellent!!
I would recommend people to come for sure and please try the matching wine offer! It was an enjoyable night.

The Chef's degustation was excellent - all the courses were wonderful and the servings were good. Flavours were generally delicate and the use of unusual ingredients was superb (I ate and enjoyed things that I would not have usually ordered eg. liver). It was silver service all night - the waitstaff were all very professional, friendly and unobtrusive. The setting was old world and elegant and suited the whole tone of the evening. A great experience - recommended for an intimate dinner.

Having tried Chef Haru's offerings at the Iron chef event in 2006, I thought I'd test him out to see what else he has to offer. And what better way than via his "surprise degustation menu". I am glad to report back that most of his dishes were of high quality (8 /10) with a few highlights being the asparagus gratin (9/10) ...this dish obviously carried over from the Iron Chef dinner event and for the better ! The other highlights of the night being the Kobe beef (9/10) and the Coffee infused Creme brulee (9/10). So of the 9 course or so; 3 were stand outs (8/10), the other 4 were good and 1 so so (5-6 /10) and one falling subpar (3/10). The course which I rated sub par was the beetroot style soba noodle which was just bland and tasteless. I don't know why it was included as part of the 9 course, as it significantly detracted from the fine and well thought out menu. I hope it wasn't just to make up numbers.
Overall, the dining experience was an enjoyable one and decor and ambience has French provincial feel to it. The premises exude alot of old charm character and class and helps make up for deficiencies in not having a harbour or city view out the window. Valuewise, at $160 per head not including drinks; I would say it is good value (not exceptional). This can be improved upon by either lowering the degustation menu's asking price or replacing a few of the 8/10 with more "wow" dishes and getting rid of the 2 mediocre ones.

I've been here with my boyfriend a few years back and judging by the other reviews, this place hasn't changed one bit. We had the degustation dinner and found most of the courses cold, must have been due to the strong Japanese influences of the food. The dessert was laughable, merely a large donut with whipped cream and strawberry jam in the middle! I could have made that at home. What a waste of money.

Honestly I cannot understand criticisms of the service in these reviews. I found it superb. Attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Really couldn't fault it. In fact the whole experience was quite magical. The combination of the matching wines and degustation menu was excellent. Not cheap, but given the quality and attention to detail I thought it was appropriate. And the food was wonderful, esp. the mushroom "flan".

The food is really ordinary - not as what I expected really. It's well presented but overpriced. The place is great for a romantic dinner with someone special. The service is good. The staff is really friendly and very helpful, but not going back there for second time.
