We went to Galante's on a busy Saturday night. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly and served quickly. Staff were amazingly friendly and attentive throughout our meal even remembering to top up wine and water. The food was fabulous. Our 7 year old grandson, a self proclaimed mussel expert, loved the mussels which came in a delicious tomato sauce. He also loved the garlic bread.
We had the grilled seafood plate which was cooked to perfection. It was so refreshing to have grilled seafood rather than deep fried. More restaurants should serve seafood this way, beautiful. We'll be back again soon. It was a really great dining experience from a little local gem.
Accompanied from friends here for dinner on a Saturday night. They raved about the food, said it was the best in Leichhardt, but, unfortunately, I have to disagree. The restaurant has a nice cosy vibe but service was shocking from the start, we waited for 15 minutes after sitting down and then had to ask for menus before they even looked our way!
The service couldn't even be blamed on a busy night, because despite it being Saturday there were loads of empty tables. The bad service continued throughout the night, the wait for the food was absolutely unacceptable and they just missed small things like the empty water bottle, three dirty plates cleared but the last sitting there until the mains were bought out, etc.
As for the food I ordered the caprese salad for the entree and the chicken imbuttitto for the main. The caprese salad was stingy in terms of there were only four slices of tomato and tiny pieces of bocconcini cheese with a mountain of rocket in the middle. The chicken was incredibly dry, so much so that I couldn't finish the dish. My partner had the rabbit fettucine and rated it as passable, and the entree of the calamari was also very small in size.
The desserts were not Italian at all (not even a tiramisu on the menu!). Overall value was not good considering the poor quality of the food. Had to disagree with my friend's recommendations but will not be coming back!
We were here for a function. The Bloody Mary shots were an instant hit. We were seated in the rear courtyard. Food was ok, not substandard by any means but ok. Have to tell you about the restrooms though, don't go there, go before or after you have been to Galante's.
Went here with my partner last week. Was excited to get some good italian and the reviews here looked great! Easy place to find. The place wasn't really full when we arrived, as there was spare tables everywhere.
Unfortunately, the service was atrocious. We waited about 25 minutes after being seated to be asked for drinks (which we then ordered food with, as we didn't want to wait longer). Dinner took another 30 minutes. At the arrival of dinner, I ordered another drink. Expecting it to arrive before our meal.
Another 25 minutes, our dinner arrived, the chicken was extremely stringy and overcooked. My dish was ok at best, but the portions were small. Which was disappointing considering others here are raving on how large they are? Anyway, after eating we sat and talked for about 20 minutes while waiting for someone we could grab for the bill (no waitress was on the back patio area the entire time mind you, it wasn't busy either, empty tables out here).
Anyway, someone actually showed with the drink I had ordered and I let them know it wasn't required anymore and we needed the bill. The bill came another 15 minutes later, at this stage I was going to use credit card but didn't want to wait any longer for someone so we put the money in the book and left. Worst service I have ever had in a Sydney restaurant, won't be back or recommend it. I wouldn't have minded the below par food, as everyone has had this, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced.
I selected this off the Top 50 Sydney Restaurants list and was completely disappointed. When I arrived the restaurant was practically empty yet we were seated right next to the coffee machine and beside another table with a family with 3 young children. The service was mediocre and the food was not worthy of a Top 50 nomination. Definitely will not be going there again.
When to dinner here after seeing all the rave reviews on this site. I am sorry to say we were very disappointed. The service was terrible. Very slow considering it wasn't really busy. The food was not great either. The Chicken Imbutitto was very dry and tuff. The ravioli walnut was better but serving was a bit on the small size.
Had to wait 20 minutes for the bill.
I'm not usually fussy, but thought I would let others know of my experience because I was very let down by Galante's considering it has previously rated quite highly.
We went here yesterday, the food was very fresh but had little taste, I had the Linguine Marinara and it had hardly any flavour, nothing really to recommend.
Staff were surly and not particularly attentive we had to go and get them when we were ready to order after waiting 30 minutes.
Without fail, every Sunday. An all day breakfast that cannot be beat for value and freshness. Fantastic eggs (a poached egg is surely a thing of beauty when done properly?), great coffee and no one giving me the eye to move on as soon as my fork is down.
I had a bit of a sleep-in this morning (Sunday morning) and went looking for a "late breakfast" place at around 11:30am. With five people we walked in the door here and instantly happy to read "all day breakfast". Great service staff who were quick with the food, put water on the table before the second request and were happy with our fussy orders (chai latte with vanilla twist; eggs Benedict served scrambled instead of poached with hollandaise on the side). I love the fact that they put the breakfast condiments in front of you without asking (butter, jams, salt and pepper) and to be honest, really tasty food. Give it a go on your next Sunday sleep in.
