One of my daughters is vegetarian. She ordered a couple of vegetable sushi rolls along with our other orders. She was very hungry so we asked to bring her order to come first. The waitress agreed to do so but her order still had not came when we all finished eat our food.
While eating our food, we asked many times for my daughter’s order. Every time the waitress walked pass we asked for her order but nothing happened. Finally we were quite upset and we talked to the staff about it. His reply was “ If the order or orders were cheap one, he makes sushi the last one of all orders.”
We were customer of the restaurant since it was located in Mosman and we used to take our business customers too but after this incident we had never gone back again.
Great find, we definitely will be back as we saw so much great looking food coming out of the kitchen and travelling to other tables. We loved our shashimi and sushi. The Tempura will have to wait till next time. Just felt like you could be dining somewhere in Japan as the restaurant was full of Japanese and the atmosphere matched.
I have been coming to this place off and on for over 20 years and went again last night, first time in over 6 years. Not much has changed and that is good. Still fresh, good quality food at very reasonable prices.
I had the gyoza and vergetables wrapped in beef for entrees - excellent. For main we shared some Tempura prawns and vegetables, a huge plate for $15, grilled eel, again really generous serve for $18 and spicy chicken Teriyaki, $16. Total bill was $75 for 3 people and we were very full. It is a small restaurant but has lot's of character, reminding me of Japanese restaurants in Tokyo you find while walking the streets.
The waiter seemed to speak little English which again added to the charm and illusion you had been transported to Tokyo!
Went there for dinner tonight with my husband on a tuesday night. After reading the reviews here, I thought I would make a booking to avoid disappointment however it was not as packed as I thought it would be ( which was good!) Perhaps we were early ( 6.30pm) but a good sign is that a few tables were eating happily already when we arrived to prove that is it popular! We were welcomed by the sushi chef and the waitresses with some greeting in Japanese and showed to our table promptly.
The specials were written in Japanese - but if you ask the waitress ( who was really professional and spoke perfect English was really nice to translate it for us)
My husband and I ordered the large sushi, tofu salad and terriyaki chicken to share. All the meals were gobbled up really quickly as it was so delicious! My fave was the tofu salad and the sushi was very fresh and tasty ( just as the reviews mentioned)
Definitely will be back again to try out more of the menu that looked so delicious!
Also a good sign was we noticed a really cute elderly Japaneses couple coming in to eat at the sushi bar and mingling with the chef. The chef was really friendly talking to them and placing freshly made sushi right on their plate ( something just like a real cosy local Japanese restaurant would do in Japan).
Loved this place. Small quaint Japanese restaurant. Old decor, but this adds to the place. Food was great, shashimi was fresh, servings were plentiful, and well priced. Service was attentive, however, lack of english speaking waitresses was sometimes painful. I recommend this place for a great night out.
What a great cozy spot this is. I know other people probably said this, but honestly it's just like Japan! What really did it for me was the unusual menu items like the deep fried stuffed fish cakes, charcoal bbq'ed saury (like a Japanese sardine) and the nasu miso (miso eggplant) was succulent, and pungent as it should be. Really excellent fresh food.
Seating can get a bit cramped - that's the only tiny complaint I have for this otherwise awesome find. I will be back!
