We used to frequent our local Japanese place. But the last 2 times we've had take away the sashimi had a funky taste and I ended up taking 1 bite and throwing it away. I can't bring myself to go back now which is a shame because it used to be pretty good.
Beautiful sushi which seems to be very fresh and its great value for money. Its a very small place but gets very crowded so the staff can forget you are there and you need to wait for service sometimes. There is quite a large number of takeaway customers and they always seem to get their food first... Nice place to go to when tired of boring pasta.
We frequent this place on week nights and the food has always been great. It's also great value, my husband and I can get away with $30 for the both of us; entree to share (the octopus balls and gyozas are yum) and 'special box c' to share (which includes sushi, fresh sashimi, terriyaki, rice, a bowl of miso and tempura prawns and veggies) - easily enough food for 2 and no corkage. This is a great 'cheap and cheerful', low key Japanese restaurant.
Ate 10 jan 08. Service basic, waiter took away our sushi before we'd finished it. Sukiyaki was pre-cooked in the kitchen instead of being provided fresh fro you to cook at your table. Probably wouldn't return.
We shared many dishes including the family sushi platter between 4 of us. The fish was fresh and food delicious. The restaurant is casual and BYO. A good cheap and cheerful option - it was $90 for 4, with plenty to eat!
We dined here tonight. I had teriyaki beef which wasn't bad ($13). My husband had mongolian beef ($16) which came out on a sizzling hot plate accompanied by boiled rice and a salad. The entree of steamed dumplings was yum but fell apart easily! This is great relatively cheap casual place to go. I have no complaints.
Food is average but not unedible. Very friendly service though which made up for it - a perfect casual 'cafe' style Japanese place I suppose - good for those nights. I can't be bothered cooking and feel like Japanese (conveniently located on Norton St - even better).
This place is fairly good value for Japanese but the food is mama desu (so-so). Service is not bad but just sparse. One more staff member would fix everything. A good option if you are unhappy of paying $25 for ordinary pasta along the rest of Norton Street.
This is a tiny little restaurant. The food here is pretty good and all made freshly when ordered, though I have had better agedashi tofu elsewhere, and the sushi pieces tend to fall apart when you picked them up. Don't expect too much by the way of service but do expect to ask for everything, spoons, glasses, bottle opener, etc. However, the food is great value for money and their menu is extensive.
