I thought this place was just a cafe, until I tried their cozze. Gorgeous! Fresh, restrained and a flavour revelation. My dining partner had the antipasti as a main and it too was gorgeous, pretty as a picture with a subtle hint of oregano marrying this dish. Just after midday well heeled clientele were lining up to get a table, and no wonder with fine dining flavours like these.
I love it. Fratelli Paradiso to me is the next best thing to eating in Rome. The waiters are 'macho', and this sometimes misunderstood by the uninitiated.
Fratelli used to be a great place for breakfast or dinner but the menu and the staff appear tired and in need of a major refurb. The menu is just dull and a plain spag boll with a handful of meatballs belongs at Bill & Tony's, not at Fratelli. We won't come back anymore.
Service is absolutely shocking! The food redeems them with high quality, classic dishes but I would think twice before going back, if they ask you to put your name on a list to wait for a table, don't bother! They won't call you if a table becomes free, opting to fill it with whoever if milling around instead.
I now don't live in Sydney, but, over the last five years I've come here annually and every time I've been impressed. It reminds me of a restaurant I went to in Milano in 1984 where I saw the film director Luchino Visconti dining; it's correct, proper and the food is brilliant and the wine list more than acceptable.
We ventured here last night and apart from taking ages to find a car park, everything else was fantastic. It's a dimly lit, moody space which has a nice intimate ambience. Service was attentive and professional in an informal and informed way. All the entrees seem to focus on the quality of the ingredients rather than the cooking. We had the antipasti plate and the calamari and both were delightful.
I spotted a calabrese salad on the next table and it looked fantastic as well. We both had pastas which were excellently cooked and very flavoursome. The pasta is all home made and you can tell. Great winelist, obviously focusing on Italy. I agree with a few of the latest comments regarding the adequacy of the serving sizes, which I think were perfect. My wife and I had an entree and a pasta each and were really satisfied and not overly full.
If you want a huge bowl of spaghetti, go to a cheap and cheerful Italian. This restaurant is more about quality rather than quantity. Besides, you can eat all the bread (which is lovely) you want if you're really hungry!
Have been here twice for breakfast and can safely say that for this meal, it's a bit overrated. The waiters are gruff, though that's not unknown in Potts Point. The food's far from disappointing, but not a standout.
Have been going here for years but never reviewed. I love this restaurant. The owners always remember us, the food is so consistent, the wine list great, the waiters fabulous and the atmosphere is buzzy and very inner-city. I am not sure whats wrong with all the people who have complained about portion sizes and pricing. I agree with the last review, why do people have such an infatuation with walking away over-stuffed?
I always have 2 courses, an entree and then a main or pasta. The bread is so beautiful that often we have a second helping. And we always leave stuffed, who would want bigger portions unless you are tight, only order a bowl of pasta which is cheap at $20 and expect to be full. I don't think I have ever spent more than $180 for two of us for two courses, mineral water, a bottle of wine and coffees, that is cheap for inner city.
Maybe these unhappy reviewers should think about why Fratelli is always full and you have to wait for a table, its because this is a great restaurant, only wish there were more of them!
I don't get it? I dined here recently on a whim after meeting a friend for a Friday evening debrief of our hectic weeks, and found a friendly attentive staff, who were happy to chat about our menu choice, then left us alone to gossip, an abundance of items to choose from, a decidedly fresh and plentiful. (I finished but was not hungry?) portion of yummy pasta.
I spent well above my budget, but only because I went for the rather pricey sancerre for nostalgias sake instead of the reasonably priced wines that were available, and even then I was really pleases it was even a choice. I loved this place it only doesn't get 10/10 because well, where does one go from there?
Honestly how much pasta do you need people? do we really need to be stuffed to bursting to feel we have received value for money? ok rant over.
A nice place. Service was excellent. Food was very nice and the wine list was great. Ambience is also good, but I must have been there the same night as the last reviewer as I too suffered from a table of very noisy and uncouth ladies. That's not the restaurant's fault though. We had the Steak Fiorentina which was very good. Prices are a bit steep though, however, I can't complain about the portions size. Overall I would definitely return.
