Best pub food I've had in Sydney! Been a couple of times (and tried a few more times in between but found it to be very popular!). Antipasti and steak are my wins. Always great to have a pint of cider in a nice pub. Will be back!

We'd been looking forward to our first visit to the Four in Hand for sometime, arriving for lunch on a Saturday after 1 pm meant we couldn't get a spot in the main bar and had to settle for the back room, not much ambience and quite cold, also lined with face height mirrors, my least favorite dining experience, watching yourself est.

Order at the bar from a pretty standard pub grub menu, steaks, fish and chips, a soup, a pie etc. The entree list looked promising and we went for a tempura scallop to share, six pretty nice plump scallops with an aoili that didn't have much flavour.

Mains we had a fish and chips and a sardine in tomato sauce. After a rather long wait, during which I was thinking they must be spending it preparing my sardines as everybody else in the room seemed to getting their meals at a steady rate.

Imagine my surprise when the sardines turned up still in a tin, sitting on a board. At first I thought, that's great presentation, they've used an old sardine tin to present the dish in, very clever, but no, it was just a tin of sardines, quite tasty, but just a tin.

The other main, fish and chips was ok, nothing great. The service was good behind the bar, happy and attentive, overall, a nice local if you lived nearby, but probably not worth the trip if you need to travel.

A regular place for friends over the last few years, staff are very friendly and there's a strong locals vibe. Counter meals and nibblies are great though serving sizes on some meals are a tad underwhelming but the quality is right up there.
