I ate at the Four in Hand on the weekend as part of a group booking with a more limited menu. The food was very good. Very bright and intense flavours in the entree (a seared bonito salad). Beef for main course suffered from being slightly cold, but the chocolatey dessert was very good, served with cress on top which added crunch and bitterness to the gluey chocolate thing underneath. Would like to go back for a quieter dinner where I could focus more on the food.

Really can't say enough good things about this place.
Food was perfectly cooked and presented. Even the amount of food seemed to have been carefully thought out. Never too much or too little (which is more often a problem in places like this). Service was amazing. Ambience was great. Go eat here.

Food: Was cooked and presented beautifully. Meat just fell of the bone and the serving sizes weren't inadequate, or too generous. I really give compliments to the chefs and kitchen staff (Especially Colin Fassnidge whom I was in contact with prior to dining here) for turning ordinary and strange food into something creative and delicious.
Ambience: I'll admit, I was at first put off by the fact that this restaurant is connected to a rather noisy pub (Even on a sunday night). However, after entering the restaurant area, the noise is forgotten and I can't even remember it being an issue. The restaurant floor is intimate and quaintly decorated -it's not over the top fancy but it's got its character.
Service: Not only were the staff enthusiastic about their jobs, they made an effort to describe the items on the menu, making sure to also make us aware of the off the menu specials. What really impressed me was the fact that I was able to contact the restaurant and clarify the availability of bone marrow on the menu. Not only was I told that it would be made available for me when I came in, but the staff specifically came to me on the night and asked if I would like a special dish made with the additional bone marrow they had in the kitchen.
This much attention to diners is why Four in Hand deserves a 10 in service. While this doesn't contribute to the score, cutlery and plates/glasses were clean and I didn't feel uncomfortable dining here.
Thank you guys, I would definitely dine here again.

Four in Hand was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Sydney!
The lamb for two was beautifully roasted and the sides (baby carrots, cheesy mash and fennel salad) balanced the dish very well. Although it was 89 dollars, it was an enormous serving. It could easily be shared between three.
The waiters were also very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, there was a spill on my partner's jacket, but they gave us some money for dry cleaning no questions asked.
If you're going to try a 2 hat restaurant in Sydney, try Four in Hand!

Finally got to try this restaurant, Amazing loved it! we had the slow cooked lamb and also the suckling pig and it was cooked to perfection. Love the creativity put into the way the food was served on wooden blocks and black bowls.
Desserts were amazing, must try the white chocolate sandwhich with aniseed but the menu changes so often here that I must go back soon. The service was fantastic without being over kill.
Also must comment that the food was very rich in flavour and tasted soooo good, definitely nothing I can copy or make at home. The staff friendly and really made us feel welcome.
Prices aren't the cheapest but if you want cheap go eat at the pub.

The food was excellent & the wine list quite extensive. Great meal great service with a cosy atmosphere. In the dinner room the spring lamb was plump and moist, with the added flavour of perfectly cooked veggies, absolutely enjoyed it! The croquettes are served in an egg carton. Come out as half a dozen barn laid pieces of crispy delights. So cool!

Food was so nice presented and tasty, but the qualities were small and the prices were just way too exorbitant. Famous for its celebrity chef, I regret that the bar looks like it would be more fun and better value.

Have been looking forward to dining here for a long time, and finally made it last night. It was very busy on a Sunday night, restaurant was full, pub was full and there was a function upstairs.
The amuse bouche was beautiful, it was so flavoursome and really started the tone of the meal. Wanted to get the Tasting Menu, but the chef's selection for the night didn't appeal as much to us as a la carte.
I had the lamb breast for entree and boyfriend had the mackarel which looked delicious. For mains we couldn't resist the special, 12 hour cumic spiced organic lamb with all the trimmings ($88). Almost every table in the restaurant had this. The meat fell off the bone it was so tender. The meat was very bland and didn't have much flavour, we were surprised as everything else was so good. Think we got a bad one, because every other table finished theirs off completely (and the portions were generous).
For dessert we shared the baked apple terrine with French toast. It was delicious, had great contrasting flavours and textures.
The service was great, we had a few people look after us and they were all very attentive. Wine and water glasses were constantly topped up and they seemed very genuine and happy (sadly not all waiters are like this).
The wines list was like a book. It had great variety range from low priced to high end and a great selection of local and international wines.
Hope to be back soon!

This is my new favourite restaurant in Sydney! Have been back 3 times in 3 weeks!
Came here initially for a special dinner and my husband and I loved it, loved the unpretentiousness of the restaurant, the simplicity and wholesome food. The serving sizes are very very generous for the price, much better value than other two hatted restaurants out and about. Service also lovely and low key. My new favourite and will definitely keep on returning.

We dined here in June for my partner's birthday and had a very pleasant evening. We chose the degustation menu for $90 each which gave us 5 courses of which we enjoyed each one immensely. It must be noted that the degustation serves were quite small (if you looked at total food received) in comparison to the suckling pig orders around us. Our only fault of the night was our constant requirement to have to ask for the wine menu or requesting extra water etc, I felt there should have been more wait staff.
