I have been going to the Fortune Village for nearly 25 years now and would have gone perhaps 150 times. It is the best Chinese food in the City, without doubt, and I have tried many others. Had a sensational feed last night with friends who hadn't been before and they loved it as well. Simon and staff do a fantastic job. That they have been in business nearly 31 years says it all.
    Can't wait to return!

My colleagues and I have been coming to the Fortune Village for a few years now. We love the old school Cantonese fare! The dining room is great, very opulent in comparison with a lot of other places around Chinatown.

The food is good, it's not Flower Drum but it's tasty and has something
for everyone. Because the bar is part of the Bowlers Club of Nsw the drinks are at genuine 1980's prices. It also means the drinks come on a separate bill at the end, which took us awhile to work out.

Simon who I think may be an owner is a very affable host, always circulating and making sure all is good. Good for business lunchs, a boozy catch up with colleagues or Chinese food when you can't be bothered going to the madness of Haymarket.

Love this place - love Simon, who is very professional and very funny... the only thing that lets this place down a tad is the bar service, but that is the club not the restaurant. Even if you experience this place once, do it, definitley worth it!

If you happen to be in the city and are looking for an above average Chinese restaurant, you could a lot worse that the Fortune Village. My wife and I went on a weeknight and were surprised that the place was not busier. The service, food and atmosphere (chinese decor) were all first class. All in all a pleasant dining experience. Recommended.

I've been eating here for years. The food is consistently very good. OK ok its not gourmet Chinese, but there's virtually no gourmet Chinese in Sydney but it is reliably good Chinese food. The service is always good. Most days (other than Fridays) its not booked out and one can have a business conversation and hear each other.

This place is a classic, a Chinese restaurant at the back of a bowling club in the city (of course there is no bowling green), through the poker machine lounge. It's entertaining to say the least.

I'd take a punt and say that the food is tasty only because of the vast amount of MSG in it... but that is pure conjecture. Its respectable food, but better Chinese can be sought out down the road in Chinatown.

What's worth a visit at the place is the wine list. Genuine 1972 prices, we picked up some early 2000 Shiraz on our last visit that was at a cheaper price than a bottle shop. (rrp around $45 their price $37.50)

An insurance haven - good, quick food, cheap, say no more Beer and Wine at Club prices too! Purchased a bottle of wine cheaper than at an Eastern Suburbs bottle shop! To say I will be back is a little obvious, I am in there once a fortnight.

It was a friday night and after we had a party in the club, we decided to go to the nearest Chinses restaurant. The food was greasy, small portion, compare to the price they charged, I believe it is an absolute rip off. 5 of us ordered a beef fried rice and another 5 dishes, the bill was $210, after we questioned the charges, we were advised that "all dishes were double serve to accomodate 5 of you" but we did not ask for double serve! Not going back at all!. P.S. for those people submitted favourable comments below, almost everyone said "best Chinese I ever had" I wonder, have you guys really had any Chinese food? Even takeaway in the food court is better than that but I had to admit that the service was good.

A well kept secret. Great food and attentive and unobtrusive service. Please don't tell anyone about this place. Our second visit was even better than the first six months previous. We will definitely be back. Time your arrival so that you can take advantage of the on street parking out the front in York St.

If you like a good chinese meal with quick service and good portions, this place makes the grade. There are very helpful with assisting vegans and vegetarians - the deep fried eggplant is fabulous.
