It is so nice to find a cafe that still employs good professional staff. The service was attentive, quick, polite and friendly. The food was excellent and although slightly higher in price than some other cafe's, more than worth it. We will be visiting this cafe on a regular basis in future.

Best restaurant in Darlinghurst as far as we are concerned. My husband and I have eaten here a few times and will continue to come back for the great flavours, knowledgeable service and the cosy atmosphere.

We went to this restaurant when it was their monthly degustation night. The ambience is quite nice, although you are immediately next to a massive construction site across the road which is the dominating view.

The food was disappointing to say the least, and I was most annoyed with the serving sizes. The meal opened with a piped dollop of water cress cream which was served on an oversized plate. The way that it sat like a showpiece against the large plate suggested that it would be a statement to taste but actually there wasn't anything but a diluted water cress flavour in room temperature cream.

The next dish of sea urchin roe was actually good for it's freshness but the combination with rice and some kind of coleslaw was a bit uninspiring. Next was duck cooked in three ways and served in a broth. I know we're heading for a recession, but the serving sizes were something else. The duck breast was the size of a 50 cent piece and less than a centimetre thick, one mouthful! I feel this is small portions to a new degree. The salmon dish was very nice, slow roasted to perfection but again the portioning was quite miserly.

My overall impression was a meal that lacked heart and that spirit of generosity. I don't expect outrageously large portions, but I think dining at any restaurant, 3 hats or otherwise, should have an element of honest food. I would also suggest simplifying the degustation menu (do we really need a dessert that combines blood orange sorbet, sumac, nuts, goats cheese ice cream, gin watermelon, basil seeds, tapioca, and caramel?).

This place seemed trapped in a time where nouveau dining was all the rage, but it was really amateurs putting pretentious food on big plates to compensate for their pastiched cooking by committee.

The staff were good and attentive. The restaurant was about a third full on the night.

SMH are ridiculously retarded for not including this place in their guide. Went here for the first time the other evening and honestly one of the best meals I've had yum! Was so shocked when I checked my guide and they didn't even get a look! Shame!

I went to this cafe with my boyfriend for breakfast after we played tennis on Sunday. I was very looking forward to try the mushroom dish which my boyfriend likes very much.

We both ordered the dish but we could finished only one serve. My boyfriend asked the waitress if we could have the other portion put in a container and take away. For some reason the waitress took the food away, but disposed of it... hmmm, this was after we had already paid, and didn't even offer a discount. Sure maybe an honest mistake, but I thought common sense would have suggested that a meal pretty much untouched should not be wasted by throwing it in the trash can?

I won't go back ever again because lets face it, service was slow, and not smart. Waitress are not friendly, not smart, rude. There is no service to speak of. It is a shame that they are not at all well trained.

Food is pretty good but service is terrible at this Cafe/Restaurant.

Had dinner here on saturday night with a another chef. The food is amazing. Worthy of a chefs hat at least. This is one place you must try. The sandstone building is as beautiful as the food and the food is good real bloody good.

Went here on Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Really liked the set up and enjoyed the staff. Food was amazing, I had the flat bread and my friend had the ham and cheese toasted sandwich (named something else, but you will be able to identify it on the menu). Food was amazing! The staff were happy to give a clear description of a few of the unknowns. All and all, I had a great time. We didn't get coffees, though people on the next table did and they seemed to enjoy them.

Best dinner I have had in years, the chef here is outstanding! Normally chefs specialise in certain areas, whether it be pastry cooking, desserts or french cuisine. The chef at Forbes & Burton can pretty much make and master everything from delicious pan seared tuna with an amazing blend of quinoa, cumin and mexican chilli to the fluffiest, most delicious nougat your taste buds will ever encounter. Quite literally my new favourite restaurant l!

Go for dinner, it's the best meal of the day to fully appreciate a chef's talents. And with the beautiful sandstone ambient and candle light, it makes for a lovely, memorable evening.

Was walking past last night and was drawn in by the gentle atmosphere that was Forbes and Burton by night. Lots of candles and soft lighting with a casual mix match furniture the warm atmosphere drew us in. We decided just to stay for a drink, then we saw the food so beautifully plated and curiously colourful. So we decided to stay for dinner too. The warm and affable staff were efficient and passionate about the food they were serving.

The waitresses enthusiastic description of the nights specials won us over immediately and we ordered one of each leaving the decision of entrees to the chef. A plate of jamon, fresh figs and a beautiful french cheese drizzled with orange blossom honey was the perfect starter. Immaculately plated and absolutely delicious we were eager for our mains.

When they arrived, they lived up to the waitresses description and more. Each plate was like a mini artwork, adorned with an unusual array of garnishes, from the squid ink tapico crisps to the puffeed quinoa crusted tuna.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Forbes and Burton by night is startlingly different to the forbes and burton by day. For high end dining the casual approach was welcoming and inviting. Though dear, the food was definitely worth it. I would definitely eat here again.

Coffee was burnt and took 20 minutes. Staff too busy trying to look cool to be bothered serving.
