Yum cha on a Sunday morning with 3 generations including 5 kids. Got there before 11 am as recommended and got a big table straight away with no queue. Perhaps, because we were early the dishes seemed to come out slowly, only pork buns and chicken pies to start with. Everything we got was good but there didn't seem to be the usual variety.
Same things over and over again. We didn't see prawn dumplings at all which seems amazing to me. Probably need to order but difficult with the lack of English spoken. Did manage to order egg custard tarts and they were excellent. When we left there was a queue but I saw trolleys with food I hadn't seen earlier so may be thats the price for coming early. Anyway, the kids ate their own weight in mango pancakes so we were happy.
We must have got one of the worst tables - it was behind a service desk in the middle of the restaurant so we were hidden from the waiters' view. We had to signal the waiters to get their attention.
Staff were polite though when we were waited upon, and the food arrived very quickly.
We ordered diced beef with black pepper and sweet and sour pork. The beef was fine, but the sweet and sour was very ordinary. For entree we had spring roles and these were a good size and filled with meat and vegetables. The spring roles were the best part of the meal.
I thought the dishes were a tad on the expensive side compared to other restaurants of a similar standard.
I don't mind going again but I wouldn't make a special trip to come here. Catch a train to eat here, parking is a nightmare.
This is definitely one of the best Chinese seafood restaurants in Sydney! Fook Yuen offers a very wide variety of dishes, but my favourite is their garlic steamed prawn. It's absolutely magnificent and very fresh too!
The dishes are always served in large quantities, but they usually come with a fabulous pricetag to match. But don't let that put you off, because I can guarantee that you definitely get what you paid for! The service is also wonderful and I really enjoy the complementary soup and desserts that are offered with your every visit.
Yum-cha is lovely too, but make sure you come nice and early, especially on the weekends, or you'll be left standing in line for more than half an hour!
We tried the YumCha here on a weekday. Place was still packed to the rafters, usually a good sign. Food was on average good, not spectacular, although some dishes were great like dumplings (pork) and mango pancakes, service was average and they did not return change after paying the bill.
I went during the week for yum cha so getting a seat was not a hassle. Staff very inattentive. Whilst there was a good selection of dishes we found that the food was average.
Been here for several work lunches and really enjoyed it. The steamed dumplings are always good particularly the snow pea and prawn ones. Mango pancakes are yummy, just steer away from chicken's feet if you don't like fatty things. Service is always consistent and price ok.
