Not as good as they use to be back in those glorious days, but nonetheless better than Kam Fook for both yum cha and dinner. Dim sims are ok. It's their BBQ pork that stands out the most, otherwise quite average. Dinner is unextroardinary, lack quality and quantity. For that price tag, don't think I'll be revisiting, definitely not for dinner anyway.

The sad thing about Fook Yuen is that, you can see traces of its former glory. It wasn’t always this way: that’s why reviews peg it close to Kam Fook (because they were written eons ago)...

Very disappointed! The restaurant use to be very good but now it's pretty crap! The service was poor, waited 45 mins before the food arrived and the restaurant was not even busy. The crab was on special, but it was the worst crab I've ever had. The price was ridiculous, charged $12.50 for tea and another $10 for the peanuts! Will never return!

Terrible... 45 minutes and got 3 dishes only for yum cha... we requested prawn dumplings 7 times... turned up as we aid $34.10 for our 3 dishes... if that's good value... shoot me. Never again - and did not even try and compensate us. Fook Yuen, Fook me...

Good place for yum cha. Love the atmosphere, the choices of yum cha dim sums. Parking can be a tad difficult in that part of Chatswood. Dinner is average but you can park at the restaurant car park if you're early. Parking for dinner fills up very quickly. All in all, a pretty good restaurant for both yum cha and dinner.

My husband I enjoyed yum cha here last Friday. Food was delicious and fresh although there were a lack of trolleys to be seen at times. The calamari was the best I've had in a long time and the dumplings were piping hot and delicious. We'll be back!

Service was quite slow and not enough food carts (yum cha) were available. Food we did get was nice, however. Waited about 10-15 prior to being seated (expected for yumcha sunday), however, staff did not appear to care.

Just celebrated a friend's birthday at Fook Yuen's. I am a regular here for Sunday yum-cha, which is of the freshest quality and superb variety, but have never before come for dinner. I was a little apprehensive about potential lapses in service quality when choosing this restaurant for a birthday celebration, chinese restaurants are not particularly known for their attentive service.
We had a great time. They put 14 of us at a very large round table, and we opted for a banquet menu at $50 per head. The food was absolutely delicious, particularly sang choi bao, peking duck and baked prawns. There was so much food that we were struggling to finish, with new courses still coming. We asked the waiters to pack the left-overs up, which they did, and we thoroughly enjoyed the food the next morning as well.
The service, although a little slow off a start, was then fast and attentive. Their wine list is very reasonably priced, lots of choice in $30-40 range. Everyone commented that the restaurant was a very good value for money and they would certainly come back.

I've been for dinner and yum cha several times now. It's never been my idea to come back to this restaurant but come with other friends. In general, I feel its somewhere between good and just ok, it is a reasonable Chinese restaurant for Chatswood in terms of food but most often, the service is poor.
Yum cha prices in general isn't cheap at most restaurants in Chatswood and the city, usually works out about $30 per head nowadays. The quality of the yum cha can be quite good hence the busy lines but sometimes variable. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a try, would say its about as good as any other in Chatswood.
Dinner is quite good and arguably better value. We had a great deal of food last night and over ordered by a couple of dishes, worked out at about $40 per head but we had several containers of extra food. Service was pretty poor as usual, barely spoke to us, were generally slow but we had a good time with friends anyway.
My old review from 2008: Food was quite good, wouldn't say it was the best Yum Cha but above average. It definitely gets very busy though quiet when we first got there (before 11am on the weekend) it was very busy at noon with a long line queuing up.
The biggest problem was the service though at Chinese restaurants, it's almost normal to expect bad service. We had an irregular group size of about 17 with a number of babies/toddlers. We got there early, the restaurant was only half full and yet their service was very poor. Didn't want to help us put tables together and a senior waiter came and told us off for standing around too long before sitting. He said that it looked like we weren't being looked after. Ok fair enough but he could have tried to be polite.
When bringing boosters, a waiter dropped one and kicked it to us. Hmm... Anyway, we tried to overlook all this and still managed to have a decent time there.
