A very good dining experience. The tuna entree was one of the best dishes I have had. Excellent wine menu and understated service. Only gripe is the price - ouch.
We spent five hours eating the most incredible fresh produce. The food was great, no really. Service left something to be desired. We had the degustation menu with wines, not a cheap option, but the wines were poured well in advance of the food, so when the food eventually came the matched wines were not so matched as we had consumed the best part of them whilst waiting for the food.
The kitchen has a problem keeping the food coming when the restaurant is busy as was proved on the night we went, there was one table of about 25 and this was their downfall. Best pick a weeknight, less likely to be busy. The food and drink were pricey, but for what you got I guess it was fair. You have to try this once, fresh is best, and everything was Fresh!!
Had heard a lot about the Flying Fish so was keen to give it a go! Should have trusted my first instincts from when we walked in, when we arrived for dinner they sat us in a dark corner that was so poorly lit, we had to use the tea light candle on the table to try to find our bags at the end of the night!!
The waitress seemed to have major attitude. She asked if we were ordering entrees and when we said no she rolled her eyes at us! We ordered our mains (and later desserts) and my partner ordered one of the "specials" that the waitress with attitude read out, when we later saw the bill, we realised that the 'special' was $140!!! An expensive lesson to learn, always ask for the price peoples!
Granted the food was nice, but way overpriced, and for spending that amount of money you don't expect to deal with wait staff with major attitude!
Absolutely wonderful service and ambience. Beautifully presented innovative food with well matched wine. Also a great relaxed cocktail bar overlooking the Harbour. can't wait to show this place off to friends from Melbourne.
We'll be back!
Birthday celebration booking was made weeks in advance, arrived early for 8:30 pm booking and was advised that the table was not ready and was seated at the bar, no-one advised when table would be ready, not seated until 9:20 pm and table still not ready, waitress was starting to prepare table and asked us what the problem was ie. why we were late! she wanted to know if we would like drinks, I said no we have had drinks and could we have the menus, as the kitchen closes at 10:30.
She said yes it does but it was only 9:00 (actually 9:25 pm) and had an attitude problem. When ordering I didn't have an entree and waitress said rudely "I thought you were hungry" - partner ordered oysters and waitress wanted to know if I had one as I was hungry! (because I had the audacity to request the menu) the meal was luke warm and disappointing. Coffees arrived via a different waitress who apologised for the delay, finished coffees and waitress with attitude finally gave us the petit fours and asked if we wanted another coffee?
Another waiter dropped a wine glass, the stem of the glass shattered and was by our feet but they didn't bother to pick it up. Partner was very disappointed with meal and service.
Went to this restaurant for my mother's birthday over the weekend and came out totally disappointed. The staff had major attitude, our food came out just warm and it was overpriced; our pre dinner drinks took 15mins, then they did not remember all the drinks and it seem like we had put them out by asking for the other drinks that they forgot. I would not be recommending it to anyone.
The degustation with wine is expensive but not bad. Off the menu the food is overpriced I don't rate this place as world standard and apart from being "seen" (Its proximity to Channel 10 studios is probably a drawcard for some) you are paying for the location.......not always the view.
Makes me wonder sometimes when we compare to the rest of the world how lucky we are to have a place like this in our city. The degustation with wine is a marvel and we were looked after very well all night. Certainly highly recommend.
Poor service, we waited 15 minutes for pre-dinner drink even though we were the only ones there, service continued to be slow and not reflective of prices we were paying. Food was good although very overpriced. Whole night poor value.
My order of seafood was average, certainly not worth the price that was asked. It was over cooked and the flavours boring, I expected a lot more. However, my friends enjoyed the crayfish and curry.
Unfortunately our waitress was rather rude which made us feel uncomfortable. Eventually I asked that she be replaced with someone who actually knew how to do their job and didn’t think the world owed them a living.
The sommelier recommended some great wines. Last but not least, the restaurant is over rated. If you know anything about fish, you are better off going to the fish markets and having a cook up at home…
