Overview
Flying Fajita Sistas provides diners with an authentic Mexican dining experience using a diverse range of ingredients. From Sopes and Huaraches to Tamales and Chimichangas, diners won't be disappointed. Check out the intimate courtyard for alfresco dining or the upstairs space for groups.
The restaurant is fully licenced and stocks a large range of Mexican beers and fine Tequilas. BYO wine is allowed or choose from the selection of boutique wines.
Taco Tuesdays are already proving popular with $3 tacos and $3 tequila shots.
Bookings are essential on Weekends and Tuesdays.
There's nothing worse than going out of your way to sate a craving and being disappointed. Which, admittedly I was not, at the Flying Fajita Sistas, which is not, to say that I was left satisfied by my dining experience either. It was definitely a hit and miss.
The experience started off precariously. Craving Mexican, my flatmate and I found the restaurant online and showed up without a booking. The restaurant was buzzing with good energy when we arrived, and were sadly told that they were fully booked and expected a 30 minutes wait for walk-ins. We left our name and number, and decided to see if anything else was available in the area.
Five minutes on our sojourn, I received a call saying our table was available, making me appreciative of their kind and speedy service. Unfortunately, this was the extent of the greatness of their service. Upon being seated to an unprepared table, it took 10 minutes to get menus and another 15 minutes to place orders with a waitress (I would later need to hail multiple times throughout the course of the meal to get any service) who would serve us our courses without any cutlery or necessary plates.
We ordered the beef nachos to start, and the snapper and chorizo fajitas as mains, and (on the recommendation of our waitress) strawberry margaritas. The margaritas without the taste of the alcohol would have been bland at best. They lacked the refreshing tang and sweetness one associates with the lively cocktail.
In contrast, our nachos completely surpassed all of our expectations. The nachos were, crisp, decadently cheesy, with meat bursting with flavour and just the right amount of spice. The guacamole and other condiments were wonderfully fresh and perfect accompaniments.
Similarly, our fajitas were fantastic. My snapper was cooked to perfection and my flatmate's chorizo was filled with flavour. Again, the accompaniments were fresh and spot on! Our only disappointments with the food were that the tortillas were cold, and that the serve of 6 tortillas between two people was simply not enough.
Overall eating at the Flying Fajita Sistas left us filling incomplete. We were full of delicious food, but left wanting of a dining experience, as the bad service relieved us any of the relaxation and joie de vive that results from a good night out.
I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food or at least, not the kind of Mexican I've been offered so far but occasionally cave in so my hubbie can partake. I thought the food seemed reasonable, better than the usual mass produced minced beef chilli and refried beans with everything that I've seen at other places.
The Achiote pulled pork had a good flavour but I was put off by the stringy dried out texture. It seemed to give out a lot of thin liquid when wrapped in the soft tacos and eaten and I hate getting gribble all over my hands when I'm eating. Next time I'll stick to knife and fork and the individual ingredients were OK.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and perhaps for that reason there were a fair few families with small children. We liked the Shelf of Pain - rows of self serve hot sauces so you can spice up your own meal to your liking. They ranged in heat order from mild (bottom row) to 'call an ambulance' (second to top row), and the highest row marked 'Please see a staff member before trying'. My husband came back with a bottle called Temporary Insanity from the second lowest row (there were 3 rows above it) - it was very, very hot indeed.
We went on a Tuesday night ($3 tacos and tequila night) and had a great night. The food was delicious (I had no complaints about my achiote pork burrito), I highly recommend you try their mixed dips platter to share.
Staff are friendly and effective too. The wall of hot sauces is fun, especially the funny labels they all have. I'd go again.
Awesome, great food, great service, just beware of the wall of sauces. You may need to keep the toliet paper in the freezer the next day. Went there with the boys so yes we had to out do each other with with the hottest sauces. Food was awesome.
Well we had been craving some Mexican food, and there are not many options in Sydney. Break down: Food was OK, but if you want a side of chips and salsa $10.00, really. We got the steak fajitas, decent meat, decent flavor but at $25.00 I could have literally made it at home and fed 6 people.
Ambience: Nice and cozy. Service: Ok I am going to be generous here because our waitress 'forgot' that I did not want salt on my margarita. Value: WTF $75.00 for 2 fajitas and 2 margaritas. Horribly overpriced, but as the place was packed I guess they can charge whatever they want.
The portions were tiny, the steak fajita consisted of sliced steak, 1 piece of capsicum, and about a 1/5 of a white onion. Wow, Not. Personally, the only time I would ever go back is for their Tues $3 tacos $3 tequilas. Overall there is much better value on Glebe Point Rd.
I was craving Mexican food so we were lucky to ring up on the night and get a table for two. I ordered the tomatillo and avocado salsa, however, the salsa came out and it was definitely not what I ordered (it was a red salsa). I asked the waitress if, perhaps, she brought the wrong one and she replied that it was right, the ingredients are blended, so two green ingredients become red when blended?!?
The salsa was still good, but not what I wanted. My husband had the pork enchiladas which were very good, I made the mistake (after reading reviews below) of ordering tamales that could be used to build a house, cooked to brick state. Very disappointing as now my Mexican craving continues. I should have gotten the enchiladas! (and the bill came and the salsa WAS wrong, she gave us the Charred tomato and ancho chile salsa. I hate when someone makes a mistake and tries to pass it off!).
Never been here before, but based on previous reviews I was tempted. Wow, what a great place! Food is fantastic, we had nacho chips and dips for starters then I had chicken flying fajitas and my partner had a chimichanga (?) and both were amazing! My partner a bit (lot) fussy when it comes to eating out - yesterday I caught him recommending this place to some friends!
The servings were huge, staff friendly but not too over the top, love their outfits!
I'm not an expert in Mexican cuisine, but I know good food when I eat it!!
We have been here several times and never had a problem until last night. Rang and made a booking and got a table down the back in the courtyard. Having learned from experience we decided to pass on entrees and instead just have mains and coffee/dessert.
All was going well until they cleared our mains plates then we were totally ignored or forgotten. We sat there for half an hour waiting for the waitress to ask if we would like dessert, coffee, the bill etc. while she attended to the other tables around us. Needless to say we got up, paid our bill at the front counter and left.
After hearing a rave review from my sister and browsing the reviews on the site decided to travel into Flying Fajita Sistas and can not speak highly enough of their food, service and fabulous margaritas! The pineapple served with the fajitas was a nice addition and the dips/corn chips were some of the best I've tried. Definitely worth a visit!
Went on a Saturday night before a show at the Seymour Centre. When we arrived at 6 pm there was only one table there, the current messy state of Glebe Point Road may have had something to do with that? The complimentary spicy nut nibbles were pleasant, as were the corn (and black bean? What were these black chips made out of?) chips with guacamole, sour cream and salsa.
Unfortunately, there was a bit of a wait before our pulled pork tamales came out, I have a feeling they may have forgotten about them because they were awfully dry (but made better by slathering them with the accompanying sauces). I think I liked the rice and the corn accompaniments better than the tamale itself! Finished off the night with a very sweet, cinammony hot chocolate (taste it before you add sugar!) by which time the place was about half full and starting to sound a bit more lively. A good place to try if you're around the Glebe area and not put off by roadworks!
