At finefish we are all about eating, supplying and enjoying fresh fabulous seasood.
If the fish counter is the “soul” of the business then the restaurant is most definitely our heart.
finefish restaurant is located upstairs above the fish counter.
This modern, first floor dining room is a quiet, sunny, oasis during lunch with a large open balcony and “al fresco” style dining. At night the room transforms into a cosy and intimate space, where the food takes centre stage.
Head chef, Paul Pereira, has designed a menu incorporating the freshest seafood and ingredients. The menu is constantly evolving to best showcase market availability; seasonality and sustainability of produce.
We offer a concise, well represented wine menu which aims to please not only the mid week palate but also the celebratory diners as well. The wine list has several wines offered by the glass.

Since reopening, Finefish is far better value than previously, while retaining the good quality seafood and good service.

I thought I would give these guys another chance after a not so pleasant 1st experience. What a mistake. I got 3 different types of fish and got home and was missing some that I paid an absolute fortune for. I called the store and they admitted that it was still in the shop and I would get a refund the next day. They said they would write my name down with the amount they owed me. No apology at that time either.
The next day I went back to the store to collect my refund. I explained what had happened and my name should have been recorded with the amount owed. The response I got was that they couldn't do anything without a receipt as no one could find anything recorded. I also explained that I am not in the habit of trying to rip off retail stores and was simply trying to get money back for their mistake.
The senior staff of the store then went to the till, took out $10 and slapped it on the counter. This was the worst piece of customer service that I have ever experienced. I will never spend another cent at this place. The fish quality was awful as well and ended up throwing away 2 fillets of salmon as they smelt off. Somewhere else has better quality fish at 1/2 the price.

I'm guilty of having given Finefish at least 6 chances to get the whole takeaway fish and chips experience at least half right, more fool me. Locally Finefish is known as the "million dollar fish shop" and isn't that the truth. I never know why people who truly don't want to work in retail or think they are above it, bother to do so.
The attitude here is palpable, you almost feel as a customer that you are intruding. The product, very basic fish and chips is so inconsistent that I have on occasion tried to work out the mood in the shop before deciding whether or not to order.

I've dined upstairs, downstairs on the sidewalk, and had takeaway. All food was top notch from the fried fish and chips to the salmon and thai fish cake "burgers" (both full of fresh fish and herbs, not breading/fillers), and the 3 course meal upstairs.
The service upstairs was not as good as the friendly and fast service downstairs, but still a very enjoyable meal and evening. It looks like they've changed the menu and upstairs is now reserved for functions? Downstairs looks to have expanded to include salads and baguettes, all very tasty looking as well.

Have dined at this restaurant a number of times over the years. I love the quality of the produce and the inspirational meals the chefs come up with. The menu is a bit limited though.

Had Fish and Chips here on Saturday afternoon for 2 people: round trip = $45 bucks. Probably the most expensive take away fish and chips in Sydney. Anyway fish was ok, but after eating most of it discovered a moving bug in the salad.
Obviously did not expect that, and told the senior staff about it. His response: "so what do you want me to do about". Completely unapologetic, like it was my problem. Rubbish. I asked for a refund on the my meal, but was offered store credit.
Why would I want to come back to a place that charges $20 bucks for simple fish and chips. What nonsense, then he said "well at least it wasn't a cockroach" and then my all time favourite "how do I know the bug didn't fly in from the outside"!
Forget these guys, they're arrogant and don't deserve the business, my main problem was the attitude. A simple apology and an offer of some gratitude would have done the trick.

Six of us went to Finefish last night. Pleasant atmosphere and was impressed with the menu, although we found it to be everly expensive. 4 had oysters and I had the Yabbies for entree. Oysters were fresh and yummy as was the Yabbies. Kifler potatoes were delicious but the roasted fennel was bland and tasteless.
Mains took 40 minutes to come out. Three of us had the Toothfish, two had the fish curry and one had the fish and chips. Both fish curries came to the table cold. One of the toothfish was luke warm and the other two were acceptable, not hot, but acceptable. The fish and chips was piping hot and my friend said it was excellent. The cold dishes went back to the kitchen and took another 15 minutes to come out. Tooth fish was still luke warm but the curries were as they should have been first time around.
No explaination or apology was forthcoming from management, most surprising. When we left, the waitress asked if we enjoyed our meal, and we expressed the fact that we were disappointed with what we had experienced. Her reply was "that's unusual"! In view of the fact that she took the dishes back to the kitchen it was a reply we did not expect to hear. Needless to say, we will definitely not go back.

We have dined here a number of times and we love it. The fish and chips are to die for and the service has always been very very good. We will be coming back.

This is a little Oasis. Wonderfully fresh fish cooked with imagination. Service is friendly, professional and consistent. Maybe they could change their menu slightly more frequently. Likewise the Amex surcharge grates on me.

I love seafood and I love Finefish - I like the simplicity and the no fuss service and attention to detail with ingredients. the taste sensations of starters and the main and of course desert just brilliant - the brilliant thing about this place is the the menu does change seasonally and fresh produce is exceptional.
I have even purchased downstairs takeaway, which was quick and easy - I can recommend this place without hesitation.
