We've recently been to this restaurant for our anniversary and it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I don't know why there is even one negative review on this site, but they probably don't know what good food and service is like!
To start with, our orders were taken as soon as we closed the menu! The service is excellent, one waiter had all our room under control and he was just fantastic and very professional. He kept filling our water glasses all night, and I checked that he attended to the other tables just as well. We received a complimentary pumpkin soup as a starter in a cool long shot glass (so did the other guests) which tasted fantastic. The food came out in a reasonable time,as we waited long enough to know that it was not some frozen reheated stuff but it didnt take a ridiculously long time either.
We ordered prawns for the entree to share and it was beautiful, (coming from a person who's not so crazy about seafood!). I had the ocean trout and my boyfriend had a steak for the main, and we ordered some roast potatoes and a salad on the side. All these dishes came out at the same time, perfectly done as we asked them! The potatoes were just perfect, the salad fresh and tasty. My boyfriend is especially picky (Italian background, really knows his food) and nobody can ever make his steak rare, it is usually way overdone, and he did not have a complaint all night! The dishes were reasonably sized, nothing like those totally ridiculous portions that some restaurants serve where quantity matters more than quality! At this place, sizes are still generous, and neither of us could finish our meals.
The atmosphere is great, the music is kept low and you can actually talk to each other! At the end, I got some tea and got some more complimentary stuff like biscuits and mints. We didn't have to wait for our bill for ages, and the prices are reasonable. This page does not give the correct prices about this place, as the entrees are all under $20, the mains were mainly around $27-35 and the desserts around $10-15. This is normal even in a no-big-deal restaurant with horrible service!
Beautiful. But sadly this type of fine dining (Edwardian style) establishment is gone and replaced by ugly noisy modern eating places where you can't hear yourself talk.
Esperanto transports you back in time, a time where a meal is enjoyed in the quiet elegant ambience of soothing live piano music, silver service and good wine.
Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Good traditional food and none of these fusion stuff they dish out.
I was thinking Winston Churchill & Humphrey Bogart must have dined like this in their time, so civilised and stress free. This is probably one of the last remaining places in Sydney that oozes elegance and class.
You're kidding right ? These reviews can only have been written by staff members. If you think the food here is a 10, you'll find the MSG laden highly sugared sweet and sour pork at the local bowling club a revelation !! You'll have to rate that an 11.
