The Erskineville Hotel is best described as a country pub in the middle of the city. We're friendly and fun - isn't that what a pub is meant to be?
Why Visit the Erskineville Hotel?
1. We're a fantastic sports watching venue, with huge screens in multiple locations around the pub.
2. We serve fantastic modern Australian pub food at very reasonable prices - why not come in and try it out.
3. We have a sensational beer garden courtyard out the back which has been termed by some as Erskinevilles best kept secret!
4. We're close to public transport - leave the car at home if you like!
5. Why not?

Up until a few months ago this was our favourite local and our favourable Pub in Sydney! The food and music has always been great.
However a few months ago they decided to do some "renovations"…great, except that they stoped halfway and now think that a concrete floor and 1960’s lino with patches of carpet and uncomfortable second hand furniture is all they need to do.
The furniture they had before was 10 times better than what they have now. And the carpet they had before is 100 times better than a bare concrete floor! Its seriously the worst thing I have ever seen
Not sure what has happened to the owners/managers… but they need to hire an interior designer ASAP. The pub has lost its cozy feel and we’ll have to find somewhere else to go on cold winter nights - probably the Kurrajong, which is much cosier these days after an actual renovation.

The New licensee has killed the Erko.
Food was the first thing to go downhill, then they ripped out the carpet, hired unpleasant bar staff, bumped the prices up, changed the furniture and tore the soul out of the old girl. Dogs aren't allowed out the front any more, nor can you smoke and drink at the same time (no smoking one side of the imaginary line, no drinking on the other...).
So much for the claim of it being a country pub in the city. The place is now the pits and empty when it used to be full of locals enjoying it's former laid back vibe.
Vale Erko of old...

This used to be the most popular pub in Erko, Charlie had the place pumping, but the new licensees have emptied it in a week by ripping out the carpet, changing beers on tap and canceling music. When will hospitality staff learn that successful pubs are about culture and community? Don't they realize that sterilizing the environment kills the vibe?

I love the Erksineville Hotel, they make great food, the drinks are well priced and the staff are attentive and good at what they do. And it's the only pub in the Erskineville/Newtown area where they show Sport!, with Volume! and it's ram packed all the time. Try going anywhere else where they do that!.

It's a cool pub, and as pubs go drinks & food are reasonable. A frequent place.

This would have to be the most down-to-earth, straight-forward and best value food in the Newtown/Erskineville area, an area that does trendy and over-priced quite well. The back courtyard is away from the crowds and good for catching up with friends when you want to talk.

Ok so its a local, its a bit rough and the service is poor and often rude. Thats ok.
The food is acceptable and the beer is fine. What is not fine is that all the flat screens are old with poor pictures. Its a busy sporty pub with loads of money coming in, show some respect to your customers and get new screens. This really could be a great local if they just pulled their socks up a bit and recognised the fact that Erskineville is no longer a bogan lower class suburb.

I have been to this pub a few times now and won't be back. Each time I have been there I have taken a large group of friends we have decided we will not be returning. I must admit the food has always been value for money, although. One male member of staff (who we think somehow is the senior staff), who we have noted before as being in the wrong industry has once again made us all feel unwelcome. His attitude is disgraceful and his obvious lack of respect for customers is appalling.
Each time a person in our group visited the bar they were taken aback by this person. So we will not be back as we prefer to enjoy our nights out in a friendlier atmosphere with at least some degree of service. I feel sorry for the kitchen as they always do a great job, maybe they could pass on some pointers to this person.

Great atmosphere and the food quality is good. However, the food portions can vary greatly from huge to just enough to feed a mouse. If you're in your fifties, as I am, the staff can treat you like you're invisible and when you are served, it's like they're doing you a favour. They needs to read this. The Feral Foodies.
