Not the best place to come to in chinatown. Peking duck pancakes were very nice, however, the san chow boy that accompanied it was tastesless. Dim sums were excellent, beer for $7.50 a bottle is a bit steep. The wait staff is shocking, yes they did bring food out very fast, however, took a long time to bring out drinks, drinks came during our last dish that had been brought out. Not happy with service, would not recommend. Go to Dixon food court if you're looking for a good value chinese dish.

What a disappointment. Expensive, worst chinese food I've had in so long that a food court would make a better choice. Service was to match. Never again!

Haven't been to Chinatown for quite a while & was really hoping to get a good quality yet fair value meal. Was surprised at the prices of most restaurants considering the number of options. Maybe I'm living in fairy land that suburban Chinese prices still exist in the district. Certainly happy to pay good money for a venue like Golden Century but Emporer's Garden was certainly overpriced for the quality we received.
Our waiter spoke very little English & part of our entree was served to us after our main (after I had to point out they had forgotten it). We also ordered the Crispy Skin Suckling Pig but were later advised it was unavailable
I can cop below par service if the food is top notch but fried rice was flavourless, BBQ Pork was boring & very little mince in the San Choy Bow. I didn't mind the Curry Prawns but overall the experience wasn't a winner.

For years this place has been an established restaurant in Chinatown and the meals were very good and good value, with an extensive menu. Over the last few years though the menu has been cut back considerably, and the quality of food has declined from what it used to be. It is now only an "OK" chinese restaurant.

I had a meal on Jul 18, 2010. We ordered a lobster as main. The waiter told me the weight showing an auto-printing slip, it was AUD214 plus, we also ordered a vegetable, the price showing on the menu was AUD 14.80.
After the meal, one lady showed me a scrawl paper, with several figures including the AUD14.80, and the total was AUD244 plus. I thought maybe some extra charge was added in Lobster cooking, so I did not question why the amount was more than the two dishes cost I had ordered.
But when the customers copy was given back to me, the total charge amount became AUD259.50, it was around AUD15 more than the total amount the restaurant’s lady showing me. I checked with the lady. She said some “Konggi” charge should be included. Since the credit card had been debited, I did not argue with her in the busy restaurant, but until now, I have been deeply regretted for my hesitation.
It is obviously the restaurant did very wrong in this case: As a normal procedure, the restaurant should show the bill details to the customer before the credit card is debited. In case some charge has not been inclusive, they should explain to the customer before they debit the credit card. In case some tip is expected by them, it is the customer’s option to decide how much tip should be paid for a good service. In Australia the tipping is not encouraged, right?
So if you dine in this restaurant, you have to be very careful with your bills, especially you are not local. Emperors Garden Chinatown is a Hongkongers operated restaurant. Hongkongers have a very bad reputation of rip-off customers, especially when they know are not locals.
These HongKongers set a very low price to attract the tourists visit Hong Kong, when you are in Hong Kong, you are told the payment is too low, not enough for all your cost coverage, you have to buy some commodity, then the tour guide or the travel agent can get money back for their own pocket.

I always liked this place before it was renovated, and now after a period of blandness the downstairs yum cha area has the same feeling. Lots of older chinese, one or two waitresses who speak enough english. Basic yum cha fare but consistently well cooked. A good honest yum cha place and if you feel that the waitresses don't speak enough english, or that they don't think you're wonderful for using a fork instead of chopsticks.
Well this just means that you get to eat in a place which is not a slick tourist place. The better the english and customer service for westerners the more westerners there will be. At least everyone is treated equally. I always take people to this place. If you want good english service and a fork go somewhere else.

Sat upstairs for yum cha in a group of 6. The vareity is somewhat limited compared to other yum cha places in the city. For example their dessert trolley only had mango pudding, tofu soup, coconut jelly and green tea and azuki bean jelly (avoid very grainy texture and funky star anise taste). Their prawn dumplings are ok packed with MSG. I would have liked to try their chestnut cake but by the time it came out we had finished dessert.
We stayed for 2 hours and there were not many trolleys circulating. But a good thing that they still have the trolley system as many other yum cha places have become order off the menu. We had to request for the dessert trolley as it only gets pushed out about once every 3 hours. The restaurant felt quite crowded and carpet was extremely dirty. For 6 people it was $120 which is quite reasonable.

We just finished our meal here and I can safely say that this restaurant disappoint. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Only to someone you don't like because they will get ripped off and be disappointed.
