Emmilou is a late night tapas bar & drinking den on the border of Surry Hills/ Darlinghurst. Emmilou is one of the original small bars in the area and specialise in an unbiased approach to delivering unique food, wine, cocktails, music & ambience.
Since opening in 2007, Emmilou has earned a reputation for exceptional tapas and cocktails, wonderful music and a distinctly European atmosphere.
Emmilou is a unique modern European/ Melbourne style tapas bar and cocktail lounge in the heart of Surry Hills.
With a en equal focus on wine, cocktails, music and creating an over all dining experience as well as of course the innovative, attractive, sexy and sulty modern Spanish tapas, it is no wonder Emmilou is one of the hottest little spots in Sydney at the moment.
From house cured wild boar to wagyu beef brisket with salsa verde and almond cream and not to forget dazzling desserts such as their signature lime cheese cake with tequila the food at Surry Hills favourite tapas bar is just divine!
Oh and a little bonus is that the whole thing is run by celebrity chef Chris Cranswick-Smith from Ready Steady Cook. You'll find him running around chatting to guests and monitoring the tone and ambience of the whole place on a nightly basis. He's a very friendly guy and he won't bite.....unless he's hungry ;-)
Emmilou- definitely worth more than a look!!

Four of us arrived for lunch last Saturday, 29 May. It was a celebration for my mother's birthday. We knew of the chef through Ready Steady Cook, but did not expect that he would be there. Chris is such a lovely guy. He was very attentive and chatty without being invasive. The menu is lovely and the suggested portions (1.5 - 2 per person) was on the money. It was great value and tasted wonderful. We would not hesitate to dine there again.

This place is best to go when you're not hungry. The food is mediocre compared to other Sydney restaurants and definitely isn't value for money. Drinks are also super expensive. I left poor and hungry.

My partner and I have eaten here a number of times and love the fact we are always remembered and shown to our usual table. The goat sausage and brisket are our favourite dishes but saying that we've tried majority of the dishes and have never failed to be impressed.
Our only disappointment is that the the degustation menu is very similar to the main menu as it would be nice to try some new dishes. We will, however, keep returning as we always enjoy ourselves.

I went to Emmilou with a group of 8 so we got to sample a lot of dishes and all of them were fantastic. My particular favourites were the Seared Scallops, Serrano Ham with Sourdough, Crispy Calamari and special mention must go to the Goat sausage. Oh and the olives were so tender and juicy. Yum, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
Chris, the owner, was a great guy and made us feel really welcome. The service from the staff was efficient and they were all knowledegeable about the dishes. The choice of music there was top notch, the tunes that were playing had just enough energy to create a cool vibe but not too over the top that you couldn't hold a conversation.
I was a big fan of the cocktail menu, in particular the Rum and Raisin. The jugs of Sangria were also a crowd pleaser with our table. It was a pity that we were too full to try the desserts! Will have to try to save some room next time. Emmilou definitely gets the tick of approval from me and I'll be back for sure.

I've eaten at Emmilou on a number of occasions, in large groups for dinner, with colleagues for lunch and everything in between. Food is consistently good, atmosphere is spot on (especially at night), and I'm always made to feel welcome. Duck liver parfait is a particular highlight of any visit, looking forward to going back soon!

This little gem is very warm and inviting. The food was wonderful, fresh ingredients and an interesting menu. I was very impressed by the quality of food. This said the service was a real let down. Being 6 people we made a reservation, which was fine, expect when we got there we were rudely told we only had the table until 7:45, giving us under two hours to enjoy the evening.
Personally I have nothing against restaurants wanting to do seatings but this was not explained to us on the phone. We all felt rushed throughout the evening, and the worst thing being a Wednesday evening the place was quiet, when we left at 8:00 there was only two other tables. That was my only grip with this fabulous bar which means I doubt I’ll ever feel the need to go back, which is a shame because the Goat Sausages are really good.

Really nice place to have a cocktail and watch the city. A great, very Spanish-European vibe, excellent cocktails and cute interesting people. Tapas is expensive and good but not amazing. Drinks are the shot here.

We went last night (tuesday) the service was good and very friendly. Most of the food was good, a little heavy at times and the menu description makes you expect a bit more than you actually get. I don't mean quantity, we were full, more quality and actual use of ingredients. However, it was a very pleasant dinner and has a great feel about the place. Good cocktails and nice wine selection.

Me and two girlfriends recently heard about Emmilou through a friend. So calling them up late on a saturday night (9:15) they snuck us onto a table. We were asked to wait at the bar for a while our table was prepared. There seem to be a certain vibe about the place that really gave it life. There were people on lounges, people standing, about 35 people seated and a few of us sitting at the bar. So far we were very content with our choice for the evening.
Our young cute bartender cracked a few jokes and got us in the mood for a cocktail. After seeing that we were spoilt for choice he helped us along and recommended separate cocktails for the three of us. For me it was the Ten counts martini. And he was spot on. I half expected a line out of a 1930's Bogart movie or even a Tom Cruise'esq style wink. He was smooth as he interacted and worked all the people sitting at his bar.
Nevertheless the manager escorted us to our table when it was ready and we left our new favourite bartender alone. The Manager had a fantastic knowledge of her wine list and recommended the 08 Malbec which had a fruity and cocoa style crispness. She was also spot on the money.
The food came out in good time. We ate the scallop. Duck liver Parfait (Which was the pick of the night until dessert, the Prawns, Goat Sausage and Wagyu Beef. Clearly the kitchen staff know how to execute. The food was balanced and shared among our table with ease.
For dessert they we were recommended the Affogato with Spanish Sherry and Turkish Coffee Ice Cream. This was perfect to end our night on. The Exec Chef Chris makes everyone feel welcome and was very accommodating seemingly for everyone in the venue.
Upon leaving, I dropped my number on the bar for my new favourite Bartender. And with the ease he had shown all night, with no fuss he slipped it in his back pocket and I finally got the wink I was looking for. We will be back to Emmilou for sure.

Very bland tapas style food. Menu read well but just completely lacked flavour. Waitstaff were nice and attentive and restaurant had a nice atmosphere. Definitely overpriced for the food.
