Emmilou is a late night tapas bar & drinking den on the border of Surry Hills/ Darlinghurst. Emmilou is one of the original small bars in the area and specialise in an unbiased approach to delivering unique food, wine, cocktails, music & ambience.
Since opening in 2007, Emmilou has earned a reputation for exceptional tapas and cocktails, wonderful music and a distinctly European atmosphere.
Emmilou is a unique modern European/ Melbourne style tapas bar and cocktail lounge in the heart of Surry Hills.
With a en equal focus on wine, cocktails, music and creating an over all dining experience as well as of course the innovative, attractive, sexy and sulty modern Spanish tapas, it is no wonder Emmilou is one of the hottest little spots in Sydney at the moment.
From house cured wild boar to wagyu beef brisket with salsa verde and almond cream and not to forget dazzling desserts such as their signature lime cheese cake with tequila the food at Surry Hills favourite tapas bar is just divine!
Oh and a little bonus is that the whole thing is run by celebrity chef Chris Cranswick-Smith from Ready Steady Cook. You'll find him running around chatting to guests and monitoring the tone and ambience of the whole place on a nightly basis. He's a very friendly guy and he won't bite.....unless he's hungry ;-)
Emmilou- definitely worth more than a look!!

My sister and I really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant! The carefully thoughtout music and surroundings set the mood for a uniqulely entertaining time! The menu is light and delicious, our favourite was the prawns and chickpeas! Chris is a lovely guy and made 'everyone' at the restaurant feel very welcome. Best service we've had in a long time. Would love to return to this restaurant for dinner next time. The atmosphere would be amazing!

I recently attended a birthday party at this venue. The hosts were asked to pay $25 a head for food, they paid for 30 people, ie about $750 for food. This was about right, perhaps, a few more people attended but this was staggered. People bought wine and other drinks.
The food served was basically about 4 or 6 plates of very average 'basic' tapas food - worth about $25 for the lot I'd say. It was absolutely ridiculous. I assumed that more food would be 'on it's way' but nothing came! I felt awful for the hosts who complained towards the end of the night. The senior staff was arrogant and simply disagreed, he said that if they hadn't eaten enough they should have said so earlier. He then threw the remainding guests out of the venue!
I'd never return. I'm very surprised that it's scoring so well actually. Perhaps, never have a party here is good advice! I'd recommend anywhere but here.

Went for Saturday lunch. Had the fantastic Wagyu Beef Brisket with Almond Cream and Salsa Verde. The flavours were sensational, perfectly matched, and the beef was melt in your mouth. Could have easily polished off another one, but had dessert instead. Our table of three got all the available desserts and tried them. Not a fan of chocolate generally, but it was nice.
The cigars were fantastic, but Chris' recommendation, the lime cheesecake with tequila jelly was sensational, all the way down to the crust. Next time I'm not sharing. Chris took the time to come to each table and talk with the guests, and is generally a nice down-to-earth guy. Definitely recommended, and definitely will come back.

Have seen Emmilou's owner & chef, Chris, on the TV show Ready Steady Cook and thought his establishment might be worth a try. And I wasn't disappointed.
Have been there 5 times now & try to take friends when I go. Lots of things on the menu you can share so great for trying a variety of dishes.
Love the food. Really think Chris is a very talented young Chef. Someone to look out for. While the food is the main draw card for me, it is quite a trendy funky place with interesting music. Can see how those factors would attract a younger crowd. Katie.C

I went here on a Saturday night with 4 girlfriends, we didn't book anything and I've read a lot of reviews about this restaurant so decided to give it a go. The restaurant was packed so the manager asked us to maybe wait at the bar, get some drinks and he'll get us a table once it becomes available. It was 10 pm and there still wasn't a table available, however, we had the best time hanging out at the bar so decided just to eat at the bar.
The bartender (Patrick) was keeping us entertained, he mixed us all sorts of yummy cocktails, their sangria was soo refreshing, one of the best sangrias I've ever had! he also made us some shots that he created himself, the food was divine! We ordered the seared scallops with chorizo, antipasto platter, wagyu beef, pork belly, prawns, every meal was delicious!
The service was outstanding, despite not getting a table, the manager did try his best and also gave us a free jug of sangria. I normally don't write bother writing reviews but my girlfriends and I had such a good experience at this restaurant that I feel the need to write one.

My visit to Emmilou was the result of a spontaneous evening out and we were lucky enough to find a table at the restaurant which was full the whole time we were there, and the reason was obvious once we ordered the food. The Sangria was delicious, the olives beautiful in a lovely herbed oil.
The food was nothing short of sensational, with my favourites being the duck liver parfait and the wagyu beef brisket, the almond cream with the beef was full of flavour and perfectly complimented the beef that was cooked just right. The chocolate and mascarpone sundae was also a delish dessert. The other exceptional thing about the restaurant was the service, we were served by Javier who was one of the friendliest and most enthusiastic waitpersons I've ever come across.
He took time to explain the menu and all his recommendations were indeed very good. Chris, the owner, was fully involved in the running of the operations and interacting with the diners which is always a very encouraging sign. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Sydney so far, and I plan to return and to introduce this place to all my friends who haven't been here yet. Highly recommended if you want a special evening, or just want to drop by for some lovely tapas after a night out since they open late!

Showing up Friday night quite late without a booking we were able to get a seat. Hadn't planned on stopping in but was told about it by a friend who had mentioned the menu looked interesting passing by. It was quite busy, but the service was horrible and took forever. Everything was very expensive and the music was a bit loud to talk over. The toilets were also a bit dirty and unisex which, I as a female am not quite comfortable with. The food wasn't anything special compared to the specially expensive price. We won't be back, should have just gone somewhere else!

I was here for dinner this past Monday night, the cocktails are to die for, the burnt orange and elderflower is out of this world. I had the Polenta and the Wagyu and I have never had better, the Wagyu with the almond cream is unreal and I am hanging to have it again, so much so I am going again next week. Truly a unique and amazing place and the food is beyond awesome, so good.

Went here last Saturday and was extremely disappointed. Major issues around service and price here. I was taken here by a friend and felt sorry for them as they were completely embarrassed as they suggested here. $50 for 1 garlic prawn, polenta, half a chorizo and 1 slice of bread with feta/tomato. Service was poor or basically non existent for such a large group. I see a 7.7 on eatability, this would be believable if the scoring was out of 20. Take my advice and look elsewhere for a Tapas restaurant.

Oysters with Gazpacho dressing, half a dozen, was the order of the day to start with. If you've read my other reviews, I like a good starter. Some free bread and spicy almonds were delivered to us, as we bought a nice bottle of wine. Then after the oysters were cleared, we decided to order.
The waitstaff were prompt to arrive and were very helpful with the choices as we weren't sure of many things. We ordered the calamaris, Jamon (I love a good jamon as previously stated in other reviews) with olive oil and sourdough bread and some marinated olives. After that, my boyfriend and I were eager for our next larger tapas plates to come out. We had ordered the Prawns with spiced chickpeas, Polenta with wild mushroom foam, twice cooked pork belly with roast garlic and potato salad and the most flavorsome, the Wagyu beef brisket with salsa verde and almond cream with a side of patatas bravas with alioli.
By this point, we were absolutely stuffed and could barely fit any more in, but I was craving chocolate, so we decided to add on a chocolate and banana sundae to share. After all this was done, we hung around to enjoy the atmosphere and soak up some cocktails (which were absolutely to good to be true, thanks Amy) before we headed home.
The night was a pleasurable one to say the least, and this will definitely fit somewhere into my top restaurants and will frequent this place to the friendly staff and ambience, as well as the quality food.
