Emmilou is a late night tapas bar & drinking den on the border of Surry Hills/ Darlinghurst. Emmilou is one of the original small bars in the area and specialise in an unbiased approach to delivering unique food, wine, cocktails, music & ambience.
Since opening in 2007, Emmilou has earned a reputation for exceptional tapas and cocktails, wonderful music and a distinctly European atmosphere.
Emmilou is a unique modern European/ Melbourne style tapas bar and cocktail lounge in the heart of Surry Hills.
With a en equal focus on wine, cocktails, music and creating an over all dining experience as well as of course the innovative, attractive, sexy and sulty modern Spanish tapas, it is no wonder Emmilou is one of the hottest little spots in Sydney at the moment.
From house cured wild boar to wagyu beef brisket with salsa verde and almond cream and not to forget dazzling desserts such as their signature lime cheese cake with tequila the food at Surry Hills favourite tapas bar is just divine!
Oh and a little bonus is that the whole thing is run by celebrity chef Chris Cranswick-Smith from Ready Steady Cook. You'll find him running around chatting to guests and monitoring the tone and ambience of the whole place on a nightly basis. He's a very friendly guy and he won't bite.....unless he's hungry ;-)
Emmilou- definitely worth more than a look!!

A trendy bar with decent food, but unfortunately ruined by abysmal service. I had a degustation meal with a few friends as part of SIFF in October. Though pricey, I like degustation menus as they usually give me a chance to relax and enjoy the food and let the restaurant take care of selecting and serving the food. Our dishes came out extremely slowly, and the last course was accompanied by the bill (!) that we had to pay immediately as the waiter had "stretched our meal out as long as he could".
I would have thought that during a degustation meal it would be up to the restaurant to pace us appropriately, rather than imply we were eating too slowly. Anyway, they had our money and were clearing our table while we were still eating. In the end we left before finishing everything as I didn't want to be sculling my cocktail while they were pulling out the chair from under us. One would expect that for $99 a head you would expect to finish your meal in peace, at a minimum.
Otherwise, some dishes were quite tasty and I would name them if the waiters had bothered to explain them to us. However, they were dramatically overpriced, even in a city of inflated tapas prices. Unfortunately the food didn't make up for the truly terrible service, so I will definitely not be going back to pay through the nose for a miserable dining experience.

The place was awesome! Service brillant. Waiter very professional and knew everything about best wines to match and food. I highly recommend. A bit expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
The Stuffed zucchini flowers with goats cheese and truffle honey was absolutely amazing. Maybe partner who is a massive meat eater said that he is has never tried anything better and it had no meat in it!

We had the pleasure of spending a altogether fabulous night at Emmilou as part of the Crave festival. We couldn't decide which course was best either the pork belly or the stuffed zuchini flower (amazing truffle honey)Very friendly attentive staff, great cocktails and bang on music for great atmosphere... highly recommended.

We waited 45 minutes for the first course and were then asked to leave the table when we wanted to order dessert, as we were only allocated 2 hours to eat. Over all not a good dining experience, poor value for money.

Went last night for dinner with a friend and had a voucher from living social. It was quite difficult to make a booking as they wouldn't let me do it over the phone and I was told when I got there that I had still booked the incorrect way for having a voucher. I don't like when these places advertise through these vouchers but make you feel horrible and second class for using them. The space is quaint and cosy.
The staff a little too attentive, asking us after every bite which was still in our mouths, whether it was nice and pouring our water every second. Apart from the gripe the food was outstanding. Beautiful, amazing flavours. I would go back for the food. At the end we were very full and satisfied so couldn't fit in dessert.
The bill came so they could use the table, they don't like you hanging unless you are eating but fair enough. Naively I didn't realise the still water cost 950 but at least I didn't leave feeling bad for not getting dessert!

We went for dinner using a Living Social voucher which was a set menu of 4 tapas plus a cocktail each. I agree that they did push their other food and drinks, but luckily we resisted more food as the set menu was filling enough. We didn't even have room to share a dessert. The waiters know their stuff and service is spot on.
The only minor downfall there was some miscommunication between the kitchen and wait staff. I like that it's a small place. It's not cosy, but the lighting is good and music an excellent eclectic groovy mix, and there are a variety of areas to sit with different seating. We had a great time and will be back to try some of their regular menu, including dessert!

We used a Cudo voucher for a cocktail each and tapas for $89 as find its a good way to check out new places. The food was plain and probably about $10 in value. The whole time the staff spent trying to sell their other meals while serving our 'tapas' which was average. The voucher was very poor value and would not recommend to anyone. We would not return for a meal given we were ripped off on the voucher.

I love love love this place! Me and my best friend stumbled across it one night by accident after not being able to find some where to sit, eat and relax. Immediately we were greeted by the friendly and very helpful staff. The price of food may be a stretch for some but definitely worth it! I recommend the Angus beef short ribs or the Spiced Quail breast, either way you can't go wrong. I found the service to be extremely good with the staff continually looking after us and even bringing out some free samples on the night! My best friend even went on to book her birthday there a few weeks later. I will be definitely returning there soon xxx

My girlfriend and I found this unique tapas and cocktail bar a few months back and it is one of our favourites in Sydney. The Kingfish curry shots with jalepeno gelato that they were serving a little while ago is the favourite thing that I have eaten in a restaurant in the last 2 years. It was a perfect fusion of different textures and beautiful flavours. The rest of the menu was at times hit and miss (but more hit) and can be on the expensive side.
The bar itself is really cool, with fantastic service, a great ambience and an ecclectic layout and music selection. Great for a date night or a beginning of a big one in the city. It was so much fun that my girlfriend took a Hen's night there for dinner and drinks, with positive reviws all round.
