Excellent value - Lebanese cuisine served tapas style serving makes it quite communal. The moorish chicken was the highlight although all meals were good quality. Didn't realise we had to be "out by 8:30" as this wasn't explained when I booked.
Probably the only criticism is that the meals are served too quickly - not sure if this is becasue we were there on a Friday and they had multiple sittings. They packed our desserts in takeaway containers and all good. Definitely will be back
It is hard to find a good quality cheap eat in Sydney these days but Emma's is definitely one worth a visit. Yes it's busy & noisy so if you were looking for quiet and romantic, choose somewhere else.
I thought the food was pretty good with lots of interesting & slightly different dishes. Definitely need to go with a few a people so you can try lots of dishes and yes the Moorish chicken was delicious.
Our only complaint was that the food came out too quickly. We arrived just after 8pm & ordered fairly quickly as we were hungry & looking at how busy it was thought it might take a while. We were wrong. The first dish probably took less than 5 minutes to appear & was followed in fairly quick succession by all the other dishes. Not wanting to let them get cold, we had to keep eating but had basically finished by 9.00pm. Next time I think I would order a few dishes first & then order the next round when we had finished the first lot.
As we were feeling so full we decided to head off to Dulwich Hill for some coffee and sweets later but the bill at Emma's for a substantial amount of food still was only $30.00 a head including corkage. Definitely worth a visit.
I'm not a big fan of middle-eastern food, there's only so much meat, bread and salad I can eat. But Emma's changed my mind an absolute gem and a hidden treasure. A touch pricey for the area, though I think worth it.
I love Emmas - whether you eat in or take away, it's delicious food. However, I am often quite shocked at the cost. Last time a takeaway meal for 3 cost $70 - rather pricey for dips, falafel and moorish chicken (which is more-ish). Eating in is often cramped and noisy, but that's part of the fun. Definitely worth a visit, but take plenty of cash with you!
I've been here several times, but the last time I went there, we had a table for 5 booked and they put us on a squashy table for 4 with an extra chair. When I mentioned this to the waitress and tried to explain that there are 2 big men sitting here, she said that we were lucky as the table is usually for 6 people.
We had a 6:30pm booking and we had to be out of there by 8:30pm but they rushed us so much and brought all the food out very quickly that we left by 7:45pm (after they just handed us the bill without asking), feeling overly full and rushed with the table next to us still empty that would have accommodated us more comfortably.
We booked dinner for 7.00 pm. We were told at 7.15 pm that we had to order as the table had been booked for another group 8.30 pm. We were not told this when we booked. We hadn't finished eating when the plates were collected and we were told we had to vacate the table. Terrible customer service.
Didn't have a good time here. Some of the food is passable such as the hommus and bread, but most of it is just like 100 other Lebanese take aways. We ordered a fish dish and it was served very hot on the edges and cold inside and on top. I guess that's what happen when you microwave frozen fish. The staff swore it had been fried but that seemed impossible to me. She was quite rude about it.
The service was bad and they kind of insist that each person spends at least $20+ which seems unreasonable for what is basically a falafel roll. Especially if you are not all very hungry.
Amazing food, not super cheap, but not what I would class as expensive. Take a bunch of friends and get a heap of plates to try.
Lady fingers were so yummy, as well as the Morish chicken and Falafels!
Would love to see a few more desserts. They used to have the most amazing cinnamon yoghurt.
Highly recommend giving it a go. Can get a little noisy but that's part of the charm, and love the Bruno Dutto picture on the wall!
