Food here is pretty bad. Great atmosphere though, such a shame everything else bites or this could be a real gem.

Coffee is acceptable, as is hot chocolate. They have cool large size cups. Service is pretty horrid, lots of backpackers from what I could deduce the few times I went there.

Friend and I lunched there today. Great ambience, wonderful service and scrumptious food, all for a reasonable price. Kudos.

Sat for 20 minutes before being served with a menu. Had to ask for service. Waited another 20 to place order. Several other parties were seated after us and served before us. Meals were very disappointing. My wife's poached eggs were boiled hard after requesting running yolks. And who serves a breakfast meal without toast? These guys do! Scrambled eggs were delicious and coffee was perfect. Very disappointing after hearing all the hype.

Had the misfortune of trying to get a cup of coffee at this so called cafe, the person who looked like she was in charge was rude, after waiting for about fifteen minutes for some sort of service, with her saying several times won't be long darlings, my wife and I decided to go somewhere else, so this staff advised us we would be better suited at McDonalds.

I went to the one in Bowral. A wonderful quaint cafe, with wonderful seating and books lining the shelves. I shared a coffee and some of their cakes. The blueberry cheesecake was delicious as was the ordinary cheesecake.

Went for the second time. Coffees still amazing and the wonderful environment is still worth the trip. Had an almond slice thing and it was beautiful. I have not tried any of the lunch food.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews here before going to Elephant Boy Cafe and if I did I'd have steered clear of it and avoided a poor and overpriced meal.

Food was average, prices were high (for what you got), 2 of 8 meals were completely missed by the kitchen and when they arrived 20 minutes later than the others they weren't cooked properly. No offer from staff to compensate by adjusting the bill down either (until we complained).

Must be plenty of better places in Bowral than this one.

Our daughter requested this cafe for her birthday lunch and we will never go back! Firstly the waitress was unhelpful and almost rude! When she had taken our order she came back with the cutlery and napkins for the 4 of us and just dumped them in a pile on the table not setting them out in place!

The food was from the 70's, terrible Waldorf salad covered in mayo and served in a soup bowl, inedible sweet sickly beef curry and chewy steak on steak sandwiches. They don't seem to care about the fact that most of the tables around us did not finish their food either, generally when a meal is enjoyed you want to clean the plate! We will never go back!

Pretty disappointing experience. Drawn in by the look of the place and the initial hospitality finding us a table. We arrived at 10.50 am and were told we had to order breakfast by 11am sharp (signs also tell its necessary), we made our choice and waited for our order to be taken which happened ok.

We then waited, and waited and waited. At one point we were told our breakfast was being plated up. 10 minutes later it still hadn't arrived. Eventually it did arrive and part of the order was missing. We were told that the potato cakes had all gone by this stage - plausible until we saw them come out on the next table 5 minutes later.

A coffee took 2 reminders and 20 minutes to arrive. We were given lots of reasons for the food taking so long. Yet it seems everyone was having the same experience.

Overall, us and others waited an hour for breakfast. The interesting decor kept our attention for 5 minutes. The only saving grace is that they recognized they stuffed up and didn't charge us for our drinks. Having now read the comments on this site I suspect they are having to compensate a lot of customers.

My recommendation - go somewhere else this place doesn't deserve customers until it learns how to run a restaraunt.

16.95 for a lunch box corned beef and mustard sandwich. Elephant boy are you serious? Never dining there again...

This cafe has a wonderful ambience, lined with books and interesting memorabilia. Unfortunately our meal there did not stack up. Hot breakfast on cold plates in winter - when will they learn! On our first visit had to send back my hot chocolate as it was cold. Same with my peppermint tea, when we went back for breakfast.
