This is a fantastic little hidden gem of Sydney dining. The food was very good, as was the intimate atmosphere. Also the service was excellent, considering we can be slightly loud and embarrassing as guests. Well recommended.
A very pleasant little French bistro tucked away in the centre of our city. I lunched there today and was enthralled with the standard of fare and the wines offered. We enjoyed battered snapper with chips and the braised lamb rigatoni. Both dishes were beautifully and tastefully prepared. The cheese plate and accompanying wines were 'to die for'. Ambience and Parisenne charm abound and are there to be enjoyed. Keep up the good work. We need more small busy restaurants of this standard in Sydney.
I had a business lunch there. I had the duck confit with seared scallop on potatoes and cauliflower puree. The confit was cooked at perfection. The Cote du Rhone was good value for money and the service was fantastic: Warm and simple.
Heard alot of good things about Element but unfortunately was very disappointed. Rabbit terrine was the only dish that worked out of the five we ordered.
For me and my friends the room lacked intimacy. It felt like we were sitting in a basement and were very aware of all passing traffic! Very limited wine list also.
It really surprised me that our dining experience was so very different from the other reviews listed!
Really enjoyed a pre-theatre dinner here recently - it was a relaxed dining experience with no hint of the stress that can sometimes accompany deadline dining. And no need to compromise for the early start and forced timeline! Lets just say that it is all the way first rate quality ingredients, expertly executed in a more classical mode.
Simple tomato salad was a case in point; could be boring, but not with such good produce and creamy goats cheese. Lightly fried prawns (with heads!) were completely crunchable. Others enjoyed tasty and generous portions of fish & chips, duck & scallops and snapper. Would even be worth visit with no theatre to rush off to!

If you are expecting cutting edge cuisine then this is really not your place. However, if you want to experience all the French Bistro classics executed so unapologetically in technique and presentation that it would make a Frenchman cry, then this is your ticket to Parisian Nirvana.
I had an immensely rich and satisfying French Onion Soup to start, followed by a generous well cooked Scotch Fillet with Café De Paris Butter and very moorish Pommes Frites. To ensure I got the heart foundation tick (not), I had a wicked Crème Brulee to finish. This meal had followed a car crash that I had experienced at an established one hatter the week previous, so it was like a divine intervention had occurred by the food Gods, to restore my faith in all things that are good and fundamental.
The floor is run efficiently and effortlessly by Gloria Gonzales, whose professionalism and sense of humour make one wonder how so many other places manage to get it wrong so consistently with more staff. The ambience is slightly pared back French Bistro with an intimate subterranean aspect. Your wine will be handled enthusiastically and competently with refreshingly good glassware to accompany it, so do not fear exposing your back vintage here.
Overall, a thoroughly warm experience in showcasing the time honoured saying that "classics are classics for a reason" and proving that honesty in both food and service will never be dated, even in a city like Sydney which is obsessed by cloning the latest food trends, more often than not, quite badly in imitation. Rather, Element pays homage to a far simpler time in Cuisine when people were simply well fed and left happy. Such modesty is much missed by this brown duck! I scored the experience between 14.25 and 14.5 out of twenty, so a chef's hat maybe possible next year.
It was my first time to Element and will definitely be going back. The salt and pepper prawns were delicious and the duck fantastic. Service 10/10... great menu and wine choices.
It was my first time there last night and I loved it. The menu was very retro, I loved the corned beef with brussel sprouts reminded me of my Nan but so much better. Chocolate Fondant was to die for, carmel sauce with it was bliss.
Service was lovely, very warm, we were there for a few hours and they kept the water glass full and were very sweet. Loved the Truffels and Turkish Delight at the end!!! Will definitely be back again.
I ate solo. I didn't need anyone as the staff and food kept me company. It is as if you are there with your closest friend. Rabbit terrin compact and speckled with fat, pork neck with jerusalim puree and roasted potatoes, a serious but compact cheese plate, and a (slightly burnt) chocolate fondant all constructed in a tiny efficient space out back. I adore the friendliness of the two girls who worked the floor, so Melbourne!! Keep it up.
