There can be a long wait at times after ordering but the decadent Spanish hot chocolate is to die for.

The first thing that struck me was the wonderful, friendly service from a young waitress that took the few seconds to make eye contact and smile.

Her willingness to ensure orders were correct and to bring the order and place it in front of me made the experience all the better.

Although the price for a coffee and sandwich is slightly more than average, I truly believe it's worth the little extra for the superior food quality they offer. I will certainly be returning many times.

Love this place. The service is great and the atmosphere is always vibrant. Great for breakfast on a Saturday and the spanish hot chocolate is to die for. Deli meets are fresh and you could sit here and graze all day. Great coffee too. A must visit!

The food is substantial and good value. However, the coffee is nothing special. I had a chorizo and egg roll, however, the chorizo was like rubber and hard to digest. If industrial factory units are for you, go here!

I agree with most of the comments below, expect about the coffee, it was awful. But the jamon deli rolls are scrumptious, the service excellent and the ambience fabulous. If only they had some good single origin coffee and then learnt how to make it, I'd give them a 10 out of 10.

El Mercado provides a wonderful casual cafe-deli experience. The deli rolls are sublime with fresh cut meats, salad and roasted vegetables all full of flavour and the coffee gets two thumbs up. I had lots of fun browsing the Spanish cookware and ingredients, many of which I found to be organic and very aromatic. Very pleased with my experience here and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area for a brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.

El Mercado is this little hidden place in the back of nowhere. Once you walk in you are greeted by some very friendly staff and a spanish mindfield of products and stock from Jamon to claypots to porrones to turron to mojama to cantabric anchovies this place really is a hidden gem.

Not to mention the Jamon Iberico de Bellota roll with a beautiful cafe or a chorizo and egg roll make the trip really worthwhile. This place made me feel like I was in the back street of some small town in Spain rather than in inner West Sydney.
