I went to The Eight this weekend to celebrate my dad's birthday. The seafood was really tasty and great. By the way, the staffs were very friendly.

The dim sim was great, lots of variety. We have 15 of us and were sitting at the round VIP room. Is was very nice and private. The service was ok, and the wine list was huge. Would definitely go back.

Yum Cha was stereotypical. Service was normal and ambiance was noisy. The decor was quiet nice and vibrant. Also, the food was quiet nice. (May) be returning in the future.

I'm Chinese & I love Yum Cha!
Just rating the food: good Yum Cha.
We came to Eight Modern Chinese for a quick brunch before 12 noon. The Har Cheung (Prawns in Flat Rice Noodles) was the stand out today. The Har Gau (Prawn Dumplings) and Daiji Gau (Scallop Dumplings) were good, but not great. Other Yum Cha places have fresher seafood in their dumplings. But at least the dumpling wrappers were made well and didn't collapse when grabbed with chopsticks. I don't normally try the Baked Char Siew Bao (BBQ Pork Buns), but there wasn't much else on offer. Other buns in other restaurants have more meat inside.
There wasn't a great deal of variety in dimsum dishes today. Possibly because we were a bit early before the major lunch rush. Overall, good Yum Cha but $$$$. We were a bit shocked at the bill considering we only had 4 dishes.

After reading some reviews my family and I went with no expectations but it ended up being a good yum cha experience. The fact that there is discounted parking (after validating at the restaurant) is a bonus and when our booked table had air conditioning blowing on our heads they had no problems moving us to another table.
Plenty of variety on the trolley and we ate what we wanted and ordered dishes we couldn't see. I especially liked the flavour of their BBQ pork buns, chive dumplings and their coconut jelly. The steam green tea fondant was something new and was popular with other diners as.
Pretty much standard service compared to other yum cha restaurants and with the entertainment card it ended up being pretty good value for the 7 of us.

Agree with below... there's nothing modern here. The waits are simply rude and arrogant! However... the food is really not that bad! I like the Yum cha here but the environment is a bit too messy. Will dine in again if there is improvement :)

There's nothing "modern" about this restaurant. It's just another bog-standard Chinese restaurant with fish tanks, abrupt service, dirty carpet and squashy tables.
And trolleys! I'm not talking about yum cha, mind you - we went there for dinner. Everything in this place gets pushed out and picked up on trolleys. We sat near the kitchen and all night long noisy, rattling trolleys were wheeled past non-stop. There was about one every minute. I hated those trolleys with a passion.

I brought a 4 ppl voucher and we chose it because we think is worth it. The peking duck was delicious and the dim sim was fresh. Most of the common dishes was in the banquet.

Food was great, and fresh. Service seemed normal for yum cha, no better nor worse than your average yum cha place. Decor is quite striking with its red carpet and walls. Has a wide variety, so would definitely come back here again. Plus they have discounted parking at haymarket if you eat here at only $5.

Decor was looks refreshing and clean. And that's about it. Food was mediocre at best, service was under par, prices wasnt the best deal in town. There wasn't any food presentation, chefs just threw it on a ice cold plate. Wait staff were more interested in chatting than serving.
