Chef made a mistake putting too much salt in the lobster dish which my friend ordered for the entree. It was extremely salty that she couldn't eat. I thought my friend was over reacting, I tried and realised that my friend was totally right, was just extremely salty. We complained to the waitress and returned the dish.
Waitress came back saying chef also acknowledged that they made a mistake. They brought the same entree in 10 minutes, tasted nice but it made us wonder why they couldn't get it right before? My main dish, blue eye cod was dry and I thought it was over cooked. On top of that Asian rice noodle in the salad (comes with fish) wasn't cooked at all.
Tasted like they just soaked the dry noodles in the hot water. Paying $75.00 for 2 course meal, you would expect that food is all delicious but it wasn't like that at all. I was very disappointed.
The view is what you paying for and I understand there is a price to it but $ 90 for 3 averages course. Service was very disappointed as very young student looking like were looking after us, they didn't know much of what was going on and couldn't give us answer to our question, meal were ok but very old fashioned, I ate in two or one (sometime 3 for lunch) hat restaurant in Sydney at least twice a month, for a lot less, a much better, sorry to say but you can't eat the view, won't be back, maybe just for coffee.
My husband and I had an excellent meal here on a recent weekend in the Blue Mountains. We were welcomed warmly and looked after beautifully on a very windy/rainy night. The food was a very high standard. Could not fault it. Look forward to going back again soon.
I am rating this place highly on the basis that we did NOT actually eat here hence a reasonable rating based on recent reviews. During a visit to the mountains, Darleys sadly was not open on Sunday's and Mondays, so we decided to try Echoes, myself, my mother, my aunt and my sister. There were two options, $75 for two courses or $95 for three courses.
Not a problem, However after lunch and a delicious high tea at Lilianfels, my mother and aunt were not up to two courses each, we asked if they could just have one course each or share two courses between them. No was the answer, they had to spend a minimum of $75 each. I just thought they really could have thought that out more they preferred to lose $285 not including wine than let my mother and aunt share their meal, they were not so busy...strange philosophy! So decided to leave.
We spent the Weekend in the Mountains, and visited a few of the top place to eat, and by far Echoes stood out as much as the view did.
We had dinner here on the Friday night, in the dining room. Wow what a room! Black on black never looked so good. I had the Pate (classic, but amazing!) and the Spatch Cock (barley risotto, who would have thought!!) and the dessert, yes I managed to fit it in, I had the macadamia tart and mandarine sorbet, which was to die for!! And the wait staff were so friendly and spot on with their recommendations. Well done guys ...
I was recommended by a friend that when visiting the Blue Mountains that I must have a meal at Echoe's so I did and was very greatful for the advice. The view is to die for & the food was refreshing. Not complicated at all with flavours that complimented each other rather than overpowering the simplicity of the dish.
Do yoursefl a favour, when visiting the Mountains have lunch at this spectacular spot & enjoy the views, the native birds in the trees & of course the delicious food.
Third time here, once for lunch & twice for dinner, since discovering Echoes middle of last year. Had the Souffle (entree) & Risotto (main), husband had Consomme(entree) & Duck (main). Thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the views are spectacular & the service impeccable, waitress even remembered our favourite wine!!! Highly recommend!!!
We came here several years ago and loved it. The scenery is spectacular and we were luck enough to come in the mist and watch the whole beautiful view become exposed as we sat and watched the mist roll away. As I remember we were also very impressed with the food and service, and the bill came to around $90.
This time round we had some problems! The view is still magnificent (even without the mist!) but the first thing the waiter did was offered us water. We asked for a still and a sparkling - at this point we hadn't seen any menus. He brings the waters - imported admittedly - along with the drinks menu. On the first page of the menu I understand the tactic - the waters are $8 each! So $16 for a litre of water and they trick you into it without allowing you to see the price! That's what really annoyed me - the sneakiness!
So I tried to get over it and we ordered the antipasto to share followed by the steak for my partner and the dory with Asian noodle and vegetable salad for me. Both the antipasto and the main meals were lovely (though I would think that a more robust fish like snapper would suit the strong Asian flavours of the salad and sauce better than the delicate dory which struggled to shine despite being superb quality) however, the servings of meat/fish are very small - I would think about 100g of each. And at $38 per main (and it's the same at lunch time despite the fact that on both occasions the dining room was empty but for us!) the value is appalling!
We sat for quite a while sipping wine and soaking it up and all things considered it was very pleasant but the bill came to $135 which I think is simply extortionate! Even taking away the ridiculous prices for water, $120 was well overpriced. The meal was nice without being spectacular and certainly $38 price tags for the tiny mains at lunch time is just over the top!
It's a shame because if it were more affordable it would be a much nicer experience. But when you know they are only after your cash it kind of wrecks the whole thing.
Lovely setting, however, cuisine and service were both disappointing. Our entree of Figs and lentils arrived with the lentils only partially cooked and containing sand. The mains of John Dory with Scampi and the Double Roasted Duck were disappointing. The John Dory was void of any moisture and tasted stale. The noodles did not add anything to the taste. The Duck was “stringy” and undercooked.
The wine waiter was inattentive and we filled our own glasses when necessary. Echoes promotes itself as one of the better restaurants in the region, it may have been at some stage, but not now. For a dinner costing $300.00 plus, including wine, we will be seeking out other options on our next visit to the mountains.
Had a lovely meal and was very well looked after. My husband and I went there to celebrate a special event and they made the night really special. The food was too die for and the helpings were a good size. Tried the cherry nougat icecream and it was delicious.
