It begins and ends with the dumplings. Steamed, boiled or fried, these little pockets of awesome are worth the trip and more than worth the 6.90 at lunch.

The most terrible thing about dumpling king was the service. We were seated from behind the counter, and promptly ignored for 20 minutes. We had to go up to the counter to order our food.
The restaurant is noisy that doesn't really bother me but it bothered my girlfriend quite a bit so don't try to go there on a hot date or if you value conversation.
And a final word of caution, the deep fried ice cream is not deep fried but covered in coconut shavings. It tastes pretty good but for 5 bucks you're better off hitting one of newtowns fine gelatissimos for dessert.
The rest of the meal was nothing to write home about either. Don't think we'll be going back.

This used to be a real favourite of ours but we went there yesterday for lunch (from the menu not the lunch deal) and were bitterly disappointed. The waitress was offhand and disinterested, the wine glasses were dirty and the food was extremely unimpressive! We had the pork pancakes as an entree, the pancakes were greasy and the pork tasteless.
We followed with the szechuan chicken and the prawn omelette. The chicken was equally as tasteless as the pork and the omelette had only six very dry prawns in it and the omelette not only looked like leather but tasted like it! From being a reliable favourite restaurant, it now one we definitely won't be going back to. Maybe it was the staff on yesterday but we're not going to risk a return visit.

We are regular customers and went for dinner, had to ask 3 times for wine glasses.
Ordered dumplings which never came. After we had finished eating (other dishes) we asked for the dumplings and were told they were three minutes away: but never arrived. When told them we didn't want the dumplings anymore, they told us that we had received the dumplings and that we would have to pay for them. This lead to a heated discussion where they continued to tell us they gave us the dumplings. It's one thing to have slow service, it's another to be accused of lying. Never going back.

I have eaten at Dumpling King many times but last night was the worst, staff too busy talking to each other to clean tables, serve customers or even be polite! Very disappointed.

The food was really good, (only if you're not a regular chinese food eater like me, therefore, your standards are pretty average to low). The prices were really good, and the portions are excellent, but they definitely failed on service. It took forever for them to even notice me and my partner were in the shop so we seated ourselves. We had to fetch our own menu's and it took forever for them to give us water. When I asked questions about the menu, the waiter could barely understand english so I just asked what is popular.
If you have a lot of patients and you're not all that fussy about your food, you're going to have a good time, but I would suggest ordering by pointing to the food on the menu and announcing the number next to it, as to avoid confusion and wrong orders.

A group of 5 of us went here on Friday night. We ordered pork/chives dumplings, pan fried and steamed (around 12 each), shallot pancake, stir fried hand made noodles, salt/pepper prawns and stir fried mixed vegetables. All in all it came to $15 each, which is quite cheap for the good mix of food that we got. So there's no doubt that this place is popular because of the good value.
Ambience wise, this place is pretty ordinary looking, but it's clean and friendly. The tables aren't suited for large groups and the place gets quite busy. The service is friendly and efficient.
The food itself is tasty and delicious. The salt/pepper prawn was a highlight with many prawns! The shallot pancake was probably the disappointment with not enough shallot in the pancake. The dumplings are good, but nothing astounding.

Sorry to say but we had the worst experience ever! The restaurant looked full so we thought it must be ok. The dumplings were over steamed/boiled and the meat contents was a dehydrated grey piece of meat (pork?) with chives. The dumpling skin was big and gluggy and big! these are the dumplings we ate are the ones you buy in a huge frozen packet at your local chinese grocer.
The prawn dumplings were fishy (frozen prawns!?) and peppery, again with big soggy, glutinous dumpling skins. The lights above weren't working above our table so the fridge light was turned on for light for us, still very hard to read the menu. We won't be trying this place again.

Best Dumplings ever. Was so cheap too! We had a group of 6 and we ordered a few dumplings to share to start with, then we shared 3 main meals and it worked out to $11.50 each! Beef dumplings were my favourite.

I thought the overall dining experience was very good. We were seated straight away and the service was really good. Despite being a very busy Sunday after the festival. The four of us got the Banquet. We were very satisifed and there was more than enough food to go around. I would recommend this place for sure.
