Better before. I loved its old retro styling that is still basically there but hidden by wall-to-wall slot machines. Still, there is always the upstairs bars. Drink prices a little steep. If you are the type who visits lots of bars, you really notice it when a place is significantly more costly than the other venues you visit.
The atmosphere is still there (I am an old patron) but way too much cigarette smoke and not enough space - taken up by too many pokies. Drinks just too pricey, but bar staff good. I wanted to tip more, but couldn't afford it ! Maybe the licensee is just a tad too greedy?
This place has so much atmosphere, I loved it! My friend and I just went there for a look and were surprised that the cocktails were tucked away underneath, but it became an adventure and we felt we were perhaps in an old speakeasy, waiting for the cops to raid the place through the door leading to the backstreet above.
A bit pricy but, despite that, this place was truly one of my Sydney favourites. But not anymore. They pulled the seats out and lobbed in poker machines. Why?!?
I used to rave about this hidden Sydney gem due to its atmospheric low-lighting and simple but effective decor. So I took some friends there recently and all we saw was the pokies. Things had changed a lot since my last visit! A great loss. Bring back the D.O.B. of old, say I.
It has been sometime since I last visited the DugOutBar, though the memory still lingers. Brilliant cocktails (yet to find a better one), albiet a little pricey. Cosy space, though may be chilly (it was winter afterall). A fantastic bartender who laboured over every single cocktail - it justifies the price. I'm off to the DOB this evening.
