Look, there is no need to have yum cha where they are rude to you. My favourite is Zilver, they are really friendly and the food is great, the dining room is modern and comfortable and looks so nice that we always take visitors there.
I am Chinese, I know my yum cha. I used to go to Kam Fook but have only been to Dragon star twice. The food is prepared with much less care than Kam Fook, the variety has dwindled. Don't complain that the trolley ladies don't speak English. To the Chinese, pushing a dim sum trolley is what your mum threatens you with if you don't study hard at school. It is a menial job and these women are paid peanuts so stop demanding any more of them, just look and try stuff; you won't die! Be assertive if you need to, get up, follow them, go order your drink at the bar, whatever, it is very casual dining and Chinese people eat out for the food, not service.
If you want service, try Sky Phoenix or Zilver or East Ocean. They also speak English. And stop eating at places with crappy ratings!! This is Sydney!
Top notch yum cha which's good for groups (4+ people). Not so good for an intimate setting. The service experience was actually very good. You can get whatever comes in the many carts that come by, or select from a wide variety of boxes on a special sheet. Food comes by quicker than most yum cha places.
First time for yum cha food not to bad, but no indication of price, wanted an itemised receipt but was unable to obtain one. Service so-so, table was obviously overloaded but they were still trying to push dishes on us. Waitresses also struggled with English and couldn't provide answers to simple questions about the dishes they were serving and came to the table speaking in Chinese (my wife is Korean and very proud of this).
The food is number 1 yum cha in Sydney but the services is worse of the worse in Sydney. The waiter/ess are so rude. Some of them can't speak English. Be patient because you have to wait for sit, for service and for food take so long long time. Ignore the services, come for yum cha only!
The serivce was terrible, we waited for over half an hour before they even took our drink order. We ordered chinese broccoli and waited 2.5 hours later after about 4 times of asking for it. Would not go there again.
I love yum cha and I have to admit this is one of the best yum cha place in terms of taste.. but do not expect any service here..the Chinese ladies who served us are rude but I guess that's what you expect to get in most of the Chinese restaurant! Definitely come back again for the food!
Somewhat noisy & crowded and long wait to be seated (Mother's Day Sunday Lunch) but food & service quite good with value for money (except as usual for many restaurants wine over priced - especially compared with food). Would go again.
Yeah, really great place to eat for service as well as value. Food was awesome and price was exceptional, we ended up having 8 dishes which cost around $60, for me my wife and daughter. Only downside was when my wife went to the ladies, she saw one of the waitress use the toilet and didn't wash her hands which put us off some what!!
Food's fantastic, but you do have to fight to get it. You have to fight to get in, fight for food, fight to make your way to the amenities and fight to get out. But I think it's all just part of the experience of good Yum Cha. If the restaurant was quiet and serene, the service overpowering and the demand less than frenzied - then you'd have reason to worry.
