Overview
Doyles at the Markets offers the very best in seafood at market prices. Situated in the heart of the Sydney Fish Markets at Pyrmont we boast great views over Blackwattle Bay. Easily accessible by road or the new Sydney Light Rail, Doyles at the Markets offers friendly service as well as our classic fish & chips through to scallops, prawns or even lobster.
Enjoy fresh seafood from our Take Away or alternatively join us for a leisurely lunch in our restaurant. We have both indoor & outdoor seating areas in our restaurant where you can relax & take in the great views over Blackwattle Bay.
A great place to visit and children are welcome.
I find Doyle's at the Fishmarkets to be a thoroughly all round enjoyable experience. I sometimes think people simply can't bring themselves to say things are great. Have returned many times and am always exceptionally happy with everything. I will be bringing my father along for his birthday on or near 22 July 2008. Keep it up! Also the variety of wines available at the wine shop (just inside concourse) is very good and reasonably priced.
The Doyle family should hang their heads in shame. Ramsay should come on down and take on this so called reputable restaurant. The service was non-existent, staff depressing and it took an hour before our order was taken. My husband and I paid $100 for a beer a wine a "frozen" prawn cocktail and two servings of "frozen" Red Spot Whiting I could have bought at Bi Lo and got my children to cook better.
Absolutely atrocious. We will never be back. Customers surrounding us had similar experiences. Several people had to go to the bar to buy their drinks, sides came out after mains had been served and eaten.
I can't get over how poor the standard of fish was at this FISH MARKET caff (restaurant is over stating it). Service pretentious and inefficient. This is probably the worst value seafood place in inner Sydney.
Very, very expensive food that isn't of great quality. The fish and chips in particular, were very expensive. The service was ok and so was the ambience.
After reading the reviews we visited here with some trepidation, but actually our dining experience was a pretty good one. (Am familiar with the Doyle's 'package' having dined at Watson's Bay location dozens of times, and agree it has gone a little bit downhill, and agree it is pricey, but it is a great setting, and still OK for the right occasion.) Similarly, I think with Doyles at Fish Market that the right company and occasion is important.
We had a table for 12 plus pram which was easily accommodated in a pleasant outdoor setting. The service was good, no complaints at all and it was busy, they even brought a toy for the baby. I wanted fried fish with chips, asked the waitress who suggested whiting, and it was spot on, and I think 4 or 5 pieces, chips only fair, hence the rating of 7 for food. Food satisfaction varied around the table with some happier than others, depended on their selection.
We nearly all had entree (mostly oysters - very good), a few beers and waters here and there, a couple of coffees, total bill $50 per head. That's Ok. The one surprise I did get, was that you could byo wine which was very easy to do at bottle shop 3 doors down. At the end of the day with Doyles, you know you get fish and chips, you know it will be more expensive than it probably could be, but there is something about the place that still appeals for the right occasion.
Absolutely horrible value. Whoever would pay over $20 for deep fried fish and chips? I've been here once and won't come back - why pay exorbitant prices for this when there is better food at much better prices outside? What the prices reflect is the name of "Doyles" which really means nothing to real foodies.
Won't come back and definitely do not recommend it.
Why was this place only one third full on a sunny Sydney Saturday? Because the service is a joke. To obtain service wave your arms and menu in the air. When the staff see you, they look the other way. Eventually, the waiter came and we ordered a drink. But to order food it was necessary to get up, go and tell a waiter.
Waited 45 minutes for the food to come (fish and chips needs a lot of careful preparation!) and at least when it came it was piping hot. Can't tell you about anything else as we took the precaution of asking for the bill when the food arrived. Peter D - we miss you!
Some of our very hep friends invited us to join them here, the look was like a fish market wondered why they selected this place. The food was fresh (tasted like just come out from the sea) and reasonable unlike other comments but the wine was expensive, I guess that made up for the the pricey bill.
The people around this area looked like intellectuals deep in discussions. Yeah would visit this place again and will forget the wine and eat the fresh calamari and the works.
I was surprised to read so many bad reviews. We went to Doyle's on 2 January 2007. We were going to just grab food from the other stores and wine from the bottle shop and sit outside. However, the outside area was very crowded and we were not in the mood to wait for a table. So into Doyle's we went.
The young lady who served us did a fantastic job. This is to her credit because the restaurant does not appear to employ many wait staff and it was busy in this holiday period. I made a point of thanking her personally for her good work as we left and acknowledging to her that we had noted that she was "run off her feet".
We ordered the Tasmanian Ocean Trout and it was wonderful. So was the rocket, avocado and parmesan salad. The mark up on wines was less than we expected and the wine list was adequate to select from for a seafood menu.
The view is wonderful - I enjoy the bustle of a working seafood market, despite the fact that it is not picture perfect. I would return to Doyles.
Well...I love this place for the food but not the service. Either our waiter has been having a bad day or they just don't know the meaning of customer service!
