My brothers choice for a lunch venue last week for our last lunch before he returned to the UK was Doyle on the Wharf, Watsons Bay.

We ordered Oysters Kilpatrick and scallops grilled with vodka, chilli and garlic a total waste of money and miserable experience we were very disappointed especially as we had thought we were going to one of the top places for seafood in Sydney how wrong it seems we were. The oysters were very average and small, certainly not any better than anywhere else but the scallops were truly dreadful. 6 the size of a $2 coin, tough, dry and not even a hint of the chilli and garlic that they were grilled in.

Basically I think they were just badly/over cooked, the shells were even charred at the edges. These dishes weren't cooked by people with a passion for seafood they were just churned out for the tourists in my opinion.

My mother and I went there today. It took us an hour to receive our food and it wasn't worth the wait. They seem to have a problem in the kitchen. They use the number system and I don't know why we had to wait longer than people who came later. We only ordered basic fish, calamari and chips and a fishermans basket.

The calamari was greasy with the crumbs falling away. The fish and scallops were nice but not out of this world. The chips were average. The oil in the bottom of the takeaway box was way too much. They didn't drain them properly. There were a lot of unhappy people. It was very busy but I don't think they are at all organised. Won't go back. Yes the views are nice. Doyle`s seem to be running all the food outlets there.

Definitely the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The fish itself was tasty but the batter was bland and soggy with oil. In fact the whole fried mess was disgustingly oily, as if they hadn't drained anything. And they simply haven't mastered a good batter, batter should be thick and crunchy, not a soggy, oily coating.

After being told how good this place was I'm not sure Aussies really 'get' fish and chips. Avoid.

The whole place reeks of "tourist factory". The food is no better quality than you might expect at any suburban Australian fish and chip shop. The service is very ordinary. But the location and view are fantastic though.

Average fish and chips at best, cash only and you have to pay for everything including the vinegar for your chips. Fortunately, dining on the beach is a lovely experience, provided you can keep the seagulls from stealing straight from your hands. They're really shooting themselves in the foot with the prices, from the get go, expectations are high, so when the food doesn't deliver it doesn't go unnoticed. Best suited as a one off for unsuspecting tourists!

Came here a little while ago with family visiting from Perth. The location is awesome right on the water. The food is what it is. We had basic fish and chips on a drive around Bondi and thru the bays. It isn't a high class restaurant but it does fill the spot.

Probably the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Thats a big call but my god it was terrible. The fish burger was terrible and the grilled sole was so overpriced and not very good! I didn't realise you could cook fried food soooo badly. So expensive as well, just go to your local fish and chip shop because I guarantee they will make better for cheaper as well. Big thumbs down!

For a low key relaxed fish and chippery I thought the cafe delivered. We got off the ferry from Circular Quay and within minutes were scoffing fresh fish with a generous portion of chips. It is what is it is, essentially a takeaway but there is nothing nicer on a pleasant summer afternoon.

I pulled up on the beach by boat, ordered some food and took it away to each at a nearby beach.

Food: the mixed grill tasted very nice with a generous serving. Ambience: not really applicable for a takeaway but given you can go and sit at the beach nearby.
Service: it tooks 20 minutess on a warm Sunday lunchtime. Value: $18 for a very tasty mixed grill is awesome value.

There is something special about being able rock up in a boat and order very nice food at a cheap price. I will definitely make this place a summertime regular.
