As a resident of Pyrmont, I have had the misfortune of eating/drinking at the Docks on far too many occasions (I'm a slow learner). The food is inedible, the staff are rude and everything is overpriced. Saturday, 21 June was the last time I will ever support this unethical establishment.
When I arrived with 8 friends I was told that there would be a twenty dollar 'cover charge' to enter. When I queried the staff member, he told us that it would be $10 for the girls and $20 for the boys to enter. I immediately turned on my heels to leave - how preposterous!
Unfortunately, my friends did not share my view and convinced me to go in. Following my friends, I entered to pay the girl at the door my $10. I handed over my $50 note and she returned $30 to me. When I explained what the other staff member told us she said 'he has nothing to do with us'.
I then asked her to return my $20 so that I could leave immediately. She refused. She also refused to return everyone else's money. Unbelievably, despite the fact that we did not officially enter the establishment, we were denied a refund. It was so absurd that I attempted to apply 'logic' on this irrationality. It's obvious that the $160 we handed over went straight into the bar staffs' pockets. It was so absurd that I asked to speak to a staff and he, unfortunately, turned out to be completely belligerent.
If you are considering dining and/or drinking here tonight, I hope that this comment has deterred you. This establishment lacks integrity in its dealings and has no respect for its customers. There are plenty of establishments to choose from if you are coming to Darling Harbour for a night-out. Give this one a miss!
This bar/ pub was awesome about 3 years ago but it has gone downhill since then, the place doesn't know what it wants to be, the crowd is never entertaining or friendly, the drinks are expensive like everyone else in darling harbour. Leave this place to the tourists! Not for the locals!
Had dinner here on Friday night, looked nice enough, not a huge pub scene (maybe because we arrived at 7pm). We all had the scotch fillet (very nice) was nice but pricey...$28.00 for a small scotch fillet with chips & a side salad. Only bad thing is we had to go to the bar to order, if I wanted to go to a bistro, probably would have. Wouldn't go there again..more better places to choose from.
Ordered the most expensive cocktail on the menu, and the bartender was in such a hurry that she splashed most of it everywhere but inside the glass, and then dropped it all over the floor while shaking it up. She then made another, but was by now in an even bigger hurry and got even less alcohol into it. Most of the other staff were too busy to even look you in the eye. Big waste of money despite the cheaper prices!
I was there last Friday for lunch. The $10 meals are excellent value especially the steak. I had not been down there since January and it has changed a lot. I talked with one of the employees and they said that they only recently changed management and have a heap of new staff. I recommend it for a nice lunch, great view!
When I used to work in Pyrmont we used to go every Friday afternoon to the Docks for a lazy lunch. The service used to be friendly and efficient. The food used to be great value for the buck and flavorsome. I took a friend there for lunch thinking it was a safe place to go as it was reasonably priced compared to everything else around there.
We went to the bar to order together. The barman was horrible. Plonked the drinks on the bar and we had to repeat the order continually. He then proceeded to serve someone else before finishing getting our drinks in order.
We then sat down to have one of two meals arrive only to be wrong. Where the waitress removed and marched away only to yell in passing on her way back that another was being cooked. Once the same meal was delivered we had a 20 minute wait for the other meal to arrive.
The wait staff couldn't understand as to why I was waiting for my friends meal to arrive before starting. (Do these people have no manners?) they then proceeded to take away my friends cutlery before the meal arrived. This place has gone down hill dramatically. To think it used to be the place to be. Friendly atmosphere. Good Music.
What happened. If the management has changed then they need to be shot. If its the old management they seriously need to get there act together and train there staff in hospitality cause they sure as hell don't have any. Our meal would of been better spent inside the harbourside foodcourt at KFC.
We went to this restaurant 6 months ago and it was great. We went last night and it was terrible. Had to order at counter! Service was non-existant - we had to ask 4 times for a jug of water and then 4 glasses of water were brought out for 5 of us. Meals arrived 10 minutes apart. Asked for a dessert menu which we never got. Had to opt for our 5 th choice of wine because they had run out!!!! of all the others. (How can a Hotel run out of wine???)
My meal (Prawns with salad was shocking - prawns were not cooked properly and avacado which was listed as a major ingredient would not have filled a tablespoon. Salad was wilted). I was very embarassed as I took some guests and have never had such a bad experience. Neither I or any of my friends will go there again. My advice - give it a miss.
Got there at 11, left at 12. The music wasnt anything you could dance to, and the DJ wasnt very talented. Another thing, I ordered a double vodka and orange and got charged 13 bucks. Is it just me or does this seem wrong? Probably had something to do with my bad company.... went with a uni friend to meet up with her friends. So yeah, there are definitely better places to spend your time and money.
The food is alright, the prices are pretty good for what you get. Only been there twice for food. Last time was sunday night and pretty quiet so waiters were good, no need to go up to bar to order food. But have to agree that music is pretty bad and unfortunate enough to spend meal near a table with some old spinsters who thought burping was funny. So mood of the place sucked.
