My partner and her friends absolutely adore this restaurant and so she has been eargerly awaiting the opportunity to take me along. Perhaps, she had built up my expectations to an unrealistic level as I didn't think the food was brilliant. Yes the dumplings are really good but I wouldn't rave about anything else. The restaurant is obviously doing extremely well as it was full with people waiting outside. We had about a 20 minute wait and with a couple of bars nearby that didn't really faze me.
The service once in the restaurant was really quick. It appears the restaurant probably had about 30 to 40 staff on the go. I like the idea of ticking off an order form, very much like some Yum Cha places. From memory we chose 5 dishes and honestly each plate was at our table within 10 minutes.
Not a huge wine selection so probably best to grab a bottle beforehand. Good but not great.

I would have to say that this place has the best dumplings in Sydney and is the only restaurant I would go to for juicy dumplings. Every time I go here, I order way too much because I get too excited and want to try everything. Everything I have tried was great and so delicious, and I could just sit down and order 20 dumplings for myself!
However, I hate waiting every time. Once I had to sit on a larger table with other customers. Wasn't too bad but I would have preferred to sit on my own table. Service is average, not great as they are always so busy.

This place was a disappointment. We waited 30 minutes for a table and the food was ok. If you have to wait that long for a table it needs to be Amazing!

I love the pork dumplings (best in town) and hot & sour soup here, definitely worth the usually long wait for a table. A meal here is quite pricey for the amount of food you get, but the quality of everything is superb. Best to go in a big group so that you can try everything on the menu.

Home of the $5 dumpling! No, seriously, awesome food if you can put up with the queues and the cost.

The dumplings here really are the best in Sydney and the chicken soup is delicious (expensive but well worth it for the flavor). None of the other savory dishes are really that worthwhile.
The decor is lovely, particularly for an Asian restaurant.
I think they really need to improve on their customer service, which was pretty good a year or so ago, but just gets worse every time I go there. Last time I was there, they banged the cutlery on the table and when pouring the water, it spilled everywhere, onto the table cloth and we did not even get an apology.

Most definitely the best soup dumplings in the world! And I am not kidding! I basically come here and just have the dumplings and the vegetarian side dish which is very addictive as well.

I first visited Din Tai Fung in Hong Kong where I was blown away with how amazing it was. I was over the moon when I discovered it's here in Sydney too and have subsequently eaten in the World Square restaurant on a number of occasions. Simply The Best dumplings in Sydney, particularly the soup dumplings which are out of this world.
The one downside? On a weekend you can wait up to an hour and a half for a table, but it's worth the wait once in a while. Also, now they have started handing out buzzers which go off when your table is called. They reach to the bar next door, so put your name down, get your buzzer and go for a few pre dinner drinks. You won't regret it.

This place is fabulous! The green beans with minced pork are to die for and the dumplings are delicious! The wait staff are very attentive and polite. It's not cheap for lunch (avg $30 a head) but it is an experience not to be missed. Be prepared for a line up if you get there too much after 12 pm on any given day and for most evenings but the lines move quickly.

I can't believe its taken me so long to try Din Tai Fung! Went today for lunch and had about a 10 minute wait, but we chose our food whilst waiting and once we were seated food begun to arrive within 5 minutes. The vegetarian "jiao zi" dumplings were my favorite, but we enjoyed every dish we had, no msg, no grease, delicate, soft flavours yum yum can't wait to go back and take all my friends!
Yes its a little on the more expensive side than your average yum cha restaurant, however, The service is great, the food is clean and the place is so hygienic it is well worth it!
