Arranged a banquet meal for 12 tonight at Diethnes. Food was not only fantastic but also of good value. Everyone had a good time. Service was impeccable. We will definitely be back. Two thumbs up.

Had Scoopon vouchers for 4 people. Called for Saturday evening dinner, book for 5 as 1 would pay in addition to the vouchers for 4, told no tables available. So booked for Friday 1pm lunch and attended.

Down the stairs, greeted and taken to the first table near the bar, we didn't get to see the rest of the restaurant due to the tables position.

Ordered baked lamb, moussaka, grilled octopus. Moussaka was acceptable but no salad accompaniment at all. Octopus was asian style and definitely not Greek. Baked lamb was tender but dry due to it being cooked few days prior and reheated.

Don't know why they serve 3 pieces zucchini fritters and 3 meatballs in shared entree for 4 people? The dessert was 1 baklava cut into 4 minute pieces and a small piece of cake cut into 4 minute pieces. Very disappointing!

My Uncle from the Greek Consulate used to take me there weekly during the 1970s and it was good, obviously hasn't changed decor wise and food has gone downhill completely.

A lot of staff but didn't pay any attention to us due to us having vouchers. The worse thing was at the end I got the bill and even though the 5th person had the Octopus at $20, they decided to charge the baked lamb at $29 as the 5th item not included in the vouchers.

We dine weekly at various restaurants as a family, and like new experiences. The main experience is the new flavours not only the value for money aspect. In this instance we got neither.

I have dined at a few nice Greek restaurants in the city and haven't been to Diethnes until today where a large group of work colleagues came here for lunch. You walk downstairs and is greeted by waiters who lead you to your table. As it was a Friday lunch, there were many diners dining.

To make it easy we ordered the banquet menu and they even allowed us to order the dinner banquet menu for lunch. As soon as we ordered, food came out from the kitchen with the highlight being the lamb. The other dishes I found too oily or just average. Definitely an abundance of food and everyone walked out full!

My wife and I went there on Saturday night, before a show at the State Theatre' and all I can say it was wonderful. We have been infrequent diners there for about 30 years and still their quality and service was great. We are of Greek background and was great to have authentic Greek food and value, as we have had for over 30 years. The 'ambience' is dated, so-what, we enjoyed a nice meal with a pleasant waiter. Hope to return sooner than later in the near future.

Took overseas visitors here and thought at first we would be in for a great night. However, waiter was extremely curt and did not explain a single thing to us, including what our voucher entitled us to. Brother ordered white bait - No, don't have any was reply (why have it on menu?) and this was only 6.30 at night, so hardly sold out!

He was offered Calamari instead which was equivalent to rubber bands according to brother. Two others had Moussaka and that was literally all there was on plate, did not even include a tiny bit of salad. I had a lamb casserole, but veg tasted and looked as if they had been stewed for ever and a day, bland soggy and tasteless (peas tasted liked canned variety?).

Desserts were probably the best of the evening but still nothing compared to other restaurants we have visited. Would not recommend this restaurant as have visited far better quality Greek Restaurants in the suburbs.

We absolutely loved the place. We found this place through a scoopon deal. Our waiter did a fantastic job of making sure we understood what we were eating for entree and what our choices were for our main course as well as making expert recommendations. Our dessert was delicious, all in all it was a great night we will definitely be going back.

Recently dined here and were pleased with our experience. Its clearly a simple family restaurant and that is reflected in its ambience and offerings.

The roast lamb and mousaka were delicious, as was the grilled haloumi. Service was attentive though it did seem a little pricey. Would go back in the future but not in a rush to.

I went back to this restaurant after a long absence from the local gastronomic scene, and yet again I find the same great food and atmosphere that made me their ardent fan ever since my first visit in the 90's.

Mouth watering dips, succulent lamb, basic but flavoursome pasta. Hey, even their bread seems to taste better than any other place, even though I know they probably just buy them.

But most of all, this place has a character, kind of place where the last name of those old guys eating on the corner table is Coleone and the large family that are celebrating the birthday in the middle row probably always celebrated their birthdays here, always.

I wish I lived in the city.

5 friends joined me last Friday night. We started with a mixed entree which included grilled haloumi cheese, grilled octopus. The cheese is a knockout in terms of taste and firm texture. The grilled octopus was the best I've had in years because it was succulent, tasty and just so tender. The roast lamb was just so tender it fell apart but was so tasty as well.

People say the place is tired. It was clean, 1980's style but most of all the staff were friendly and knew their food. The dishes we had were recommended to us by our waiter, Theo, who knew his food and wine.

The friends, food, ambience and staff made it a very enjoyable night. I have given my patronage to this Sydney institution over many years and I will return for more enjoyment.

Went here for dinner on a Friday night with a group of seven friends. I was really looking forward to it but was bitterly disappointed. The food is quite simply Awful! I had what was supposedly roast lamb but seriously tasted like a bad stew that had been cooked days before, then frozen and then reheated in a microwave. I'm not usually that picky but I couldn't eat it.

The decor is tired to say the least, but I could live with that and the service was very rushed. But with so many fine restaurants in Sydney, why would you bother here?
