I went to Diethnes for a business dinner some time ago. The service was extremely poor and I got attitude from the matrede (Who I believe may have been the owner). I would recommend this place only for the food. But if you are looking for a complete nice experience then maybe give this place a miss. I would recommend The Olive at Harris Park or Thaleia at Beverley Hills over this place.

Best Greek in Sydney, hands down! Theres a reason this place has been around for 35 years.
There isn't any faults I can find in this place. Fantastic value, Amazing traditional Greek food and friendly staff. Try the Greek Casserole, there isn't many dishes in this World better than this!
Bottom line, if you like meat, you'll Love this place.

This restaurant has not kept up with the times. The food quality was low, the mains were a decent size but I couldn't help but laugh when the share platters had 3 pieces for 4 people! The décor was a good 40 years old. It was not an ideal restaurant experience and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone wanting even average Greek food.

Arranged a banquet meal for 12 tonight at Diethnes. Food was not only fantastic but also of good value. Everyone had a good time. Service was impeccable. We will definitely be back. Two thumbs up.

Had Scoopon vouchers for 4 people. Called for Saturday evening dinner, book for 5 as 1 would pay in addition to the vouchers for 4, told no tables available. So booked for Friday 1pm lunch and attended.
Down the stairs, greeted and taken to the first table near the bar, we didn't get to see the rest of the restaurant due to the tables position.
Ordered baked lamb, moussaka, grilled octopus. Moussaka was acceptable but no salad accompaniment at all. Octopus was asian style and definitely not Greek. Baked lamb was tender but dry due to it being cooked few days prior and reheated.
Don't know why they serve 3 pieces zucchini fritters and 3 meatballs in shared entree for 4 people? The dessert was 1 baklava cut into 4 minute pieces and a small piece of cake cut into 4 minute pieces. Very disappointing!
My Uncle from the Greek Consulate used to take me there weekly during the 1970s and it was good, obviously hasn't changed decor wise and food has gone downhill completely.
A lot of staff but didn't pay any attention to us due to us having vouchers. The worse thing was at the end I got the bill and even though the 5th person had the Octopus at $20, they decided to charge the baked lamb at $29 as the 5th item not included in the vouchers.
We dine weekly at various restaurants as a family, and like new experiences. The main experience is the new flavours not only the value for money aspect. In this instance we got neither.

I have dined at a few nice Greek restaurants in the city and haven't been to Diethnes until today where a large group of work colleagues came here for lunch. You walk downstairs and is greeted by waiters who lead you to your table. As it was a Friday lunch, there were many diners dining.
To make it easy we ordered the banquet menu and they even allowed us to order the dinner banquet menu for lunch. As soon as we ordered, food came out from the kitchen with the highlight being the lamb. The other dishes I found too oily or just average. Definitely an abundance of food and everyone walked out full!

My wife and I went there on Saturday night, before a show at the State Theatre' and all I can say it was wonderful. We have been infrequent diners there for about 30 years and still their quality and service was great. We are of Greek background and was great to have authentic Greek food and value, as we have had for over 30 years. The 'ambience' is dated, so-what, we enjoyed a nice meal with a pleasant waiter. Hope to return sooner than later in the near future.

Took overseas visitors here and thought at first we would be in for a great night. However, waiter was extremely curt and did not explain a single thing to us, including what our voucher entitled us to. Brother ordered white bait - No, don't have any was reply (why have it on menu?) and this was only 6.30 at night, so hardly sold out!
He was offered Calamari instead which was equivalent to rubber bands according to brother. Two others had Moussaka and that was literally all there was on plate, did not even include a tiny bit of salad. I had a lamb casserole, but veg tasted and looked as if they had been stewed for ever and a day, bland soggy and tasteless (peas tasted liked canned variety?).
Desserts were probably the best of the evening but still nothing compared to other restaurants we have visited. Would not recommend this restaurant as have visited far better quality Greek Restaurants in the suburbs.
